Miuccia Prada’s Spring 2005 collection debuted on the runway 22 years ago next month. The collection was a mix of bright, bold hues and eccentric patterns and prints—including birds and feathers printed onto skirts, dresses, and more, plus actual bird feathers scattered throughout.
The bags, fitting for both the time and the collection they accompanied, were also extremely colorful, quirky, and fun.
I was 14 at the time and a freshman in high school when the collection was presented at Milan Fashion Week, and I more than likely scrolled through photos of it on Style.com (RIP) using the family iMac.
Revisiting Prada Spring 2005

Still, it wasn’t until we covered street-style bags outside NYFW Spring 2025 that I fell in love with one of the runway bags from Prada’s Spring 2005 collection. I tried to find a listing for one for sale immediately, but all of the listings I found were expired listings for bags that had already been sold.
Two Years, One Very Specific Bag
In the two years since, I would, from time to time, drop the photo into Google Lens, hoping to find a listing for sale, but to no avail. Then, as luck would have it, I walked into Superette Vintage in Chinatown, not far from my apartment, and there it was—staring me right in the face: a Spring 2005 Prada Crocodillo Bauletto bag.
The bag, which was sourced by an amazing vintage reseller named Nickie, literally stopped me dead in my tracks. I almost didn’t believe it—it was purple with orange trim—two of my favorite colors and a combination I’d never seen before in my search.

Still, it’s been a while since I impulsively bought anything, but I walked out of the store and ruminated on it.
I knew it might be a while before I found the bag again, and three hours later, I went back and walked out with my dream vintage Prada. I simply had to have it. Some bags we don’t find; they find us, and that’s exactly what happened on a random Saturday afternoon when I least expected it—when I wasn’t even looking.
While my exact bag is, of course, currently unavailable, you can shop similar styles on The RealReal.
