Pantone Releases Its 2019 Color of the Year

They're calling it Living Coral but do you really want to live in coral?

Every year in early December, Pantone, which is a color cataloging service, releases a color of the year for the forthcoming year. Once the color of the year is released, you’ll probably start to pick up on this trend among the stores you frequent, brands you love, and sites you love to scroll. Oftentimes, you’ll even be able to spot the trend in previous collections that have already been released. This year, Pantone has named its color of the year for 2019 ‘Living Coral,’ and it is being described as “a life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone.” This coral tone is much less orangey-red than what you may think of when you think of coral, and way more on the salmon-pink side.

Unlike the 2018 color of the year, which wasn’t particularly a color that typically trends in the fashion world, the coral trend as a whole is not a new concept. Coral is a color that often pops up in designer’s spring and summer collections, and it’s a tone that works for many skin tones and hair colors. Looking back at collections from Spring 2019, coral popped up on the runway time after time, so it’s really not surprising that ‘Living Coral’ has been named color of the year. As someone who mostly wears neutral colors, like black in the winter and white in the fall, I would embrace this trend either in a pretty coral lip color, or of course a great coral handbag. I’ve already found some great bags to help you live in coral, check out our finds below!
