Texture is one of the big fashion words on everyone’s lips this year, which means that finding a unique way to incorporate it into your wardrobe is going to be a big challenge in a few months. Most of you seemed a bit tepid toward the prevailing ideas about python and its many uses, and I can’t say I blame you – I saw enough snakeskin during the Fall 2011 shows that I’d be perfectly happy if I didn’t see it again until 2012.

Thank god, though, that we can always rely on Marni to give us an uncommon take on a common idea. The Marni Studded Leather Shoulder Bag makes a bold texture statement without being a slave to one trend or another, and it does that while being neutral and functional enough to use every day. This bag has enough personality to not appeal to absolutely everyone, but who wants to carry a bag that can be seen on the shoulder of every other woman walking down the street? Certainly not me. (Unless it’s a Celine Luggage Tote, of course. Then GIMME GIMME GIMME. Ahem. But that’s beside the point!)

I probably sound like a broken record when it comes to Marni, but I quite admire the brand’s ability to be directional and taste-specific without losing the utilitarian nature of its pieces. The taupe leather-covered studs make this bag a bit of an aesthetic oddity, but this is a time in fashion to embrace oddness and all of its trappings. When you can do that and still carry a neutral bag that holds everything you need for the day, you know that the piece’s designer has done his or her job. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $2015.

I love this! Wasn’t sure on the studs but when I saw the larger picture they are just cool! And I always love shoulder straps with lots of detail and hardware…..

Now if only I had 2000$ to burn…hmmmm

When you just start hot gluing spray painted Shock Tarts to a handbag, and selling it for over $2k, you’ve clearly run out of ideas. Just my opinion

  • hmm

I just think it looks like bubble wrap.

    • ninjaninja

      Exactly what I thought too.

  • Fiona-Brazil

It does look bubble wrap, but bubble wrap yummy!!!Weird but good weird!I just don´t like the price, too much for a funny bag.

  • Marianna

My first thought was that it looks like the mat in my bathtub! It’s kinda groovy and definitely a bit pricey especially considering it’s style.

Omg YES! You hit it right on the money.

  • PhotoGirl

Even though it reminds me of the floor mats in my car, I absolutely love it!

  • 19yearslater

I really like it, it reminds me of a computer keyboard.

It lacks any sophistication. This bag almost looks like armadillo armour to repel people. I like the handle, but I think the rest is hideous.

I like that they took a simple shape and silhouette in a neutral color and make it jazzy.
I wouldn’t wear it. For some reason, it’s reminding me of alien skin.

Even though my name is Marni, and I want to like the Marni brand; I just don’t care for any of their handbags. They are just either boring or weird. This one looks like bubble wrap as someone already mentioned.

  • Cathy Fitz

Don’t care for this bag. Too big and knobby.

  • AW

Dont’ love the price but the style and texture are definitely special. Even the color is divine in that it looks like creamy skin with a great leather finish
