At a time when archival revivals are a dime a dozen, it’s not at all surprising that what’s old continues to become new again. This has become a theme at every major design house from Gucci to Fendi, and Nicolas Ghesquière at Louis Vuitton too. On the heels of his latest vintage-inspired revival, the Loop bag, which is an ode to the discontinued Croissant bag, Ghesquière and co introduce the new Diane bag for spring 2022.
A Blast from the Past
The Diane Bag in the brand’s storied Monogram canvas revives a classic Louis Vuitton bag from the 1990s, taking elements from the former icon and combining them with modern, contemporary finishes. Details like the bag’s leather corners, saddle-like buckle closure (though it’s finished with a magnetic button), and sleek shoulder bag silhouette give off a vintage appeal and are an ode to the ’90s. Meanwhile, the bag is refreshed with modern updates like a wide jacquard strap that reverses and can be worn either with the bold Louis Vuitton lettering showing or the brand’s iconic Monogram Flower motif (color options are black or pink).
The bag’s interior is spacious, and with overall dimensions of 3.5″ H x 5.9″ W x 9.4″ D there is ample room inside, making the Diane a great everyday bag. Designed with modern functionality in mind, smart pockets are added to the inside and the outside of the bag. A zippered pocket also sits on the back interior of the bag, which is perfect for securing any valuables.
The monogram canvas is finished with natural-aged leather trim, which is darker in color as it’s been treated. It won’t show wear or water as much as vachetta. In addition to the logo-jacquard strap, the bag also comes with a slim leather shoulder strap. Both straps are removable and can be worn on their own or simultaneously. Currently, the Diane retails for $2,370 but is sold out online. Check your local boutique for availability.

This beautiful girl has been given odd men’s clothes and is now gender neutral with an ugly bag? I just don’t understand this mess
Per usual, the 100 bags or so they made are sold out online and in every boutique; probably prior to this article being published. Anywho, the colorful strap cheapens the look of the bag. It would look great with a long vachetta crossbody strap, IMHBHO.🌹
I do not for the life of me understand why they keep putting those ugly straps on these beautiful bags. The only thing I can think is its a lot cheaper for them netting them more money
I agree with you sooo much!
I used to love the alma bb, for example, but I can’t stand the new strap
Agreed! The strap looks like an afterthought – oh we had a bunch of these lying around so lets just add it to the bag and add another $1000 to the price tag
Exactly. This bag easily could have cost under $1500 but they wanted to give it the markup so they added a tacky strap that takes away it’s classic look.
This bag simply does not merit a $2400 price tag. And while I’m all in favor of re-issues of great bags from the past, this isn’t one of them. It just looks dated. And the fabric strap doesn’t add to the bag’s value or appeal; if anything, it detracts from it.
I like this as it would make a nice everyday bag. But $2400?! Yikes! Even with the strap (and price increases), I was thinking more in the $1800 range.
Even though we’re going through a 90’s revival and other brands have successfully brought back 90’s designs, this bag just looks dated. It’s like someone styled their vintage 90’s bag with a 2022 strap. And the price is not it. Agree with Gina that the sold out ploy is getting old.
I’m headed to Paris in 8 weeks, and this might be the bag I seek out there!
Head to the St. Germain boutique! Its never crowded and the service is stellar!!
I have this bag and I couldn’t be happier. It’s quite versatile and although many people are saying they hate the Jacquard strap I love that the strap works with a few of my other bags. I currently have it attached to my black leather Multi Pochette.
I hope the quality of the bag is worh 2k and they offer a lifetime warranty. LV bags peel badly.
Been there, done that.
