Louis Vuitton Updates Some of Its Fan-Favorite Bags with New, Colorful Braided Handles for Winter 2018

The bags come in both monogram and leather options

Although of course I love seeing brand new designs each season, I generally feel just as curious about how the world’s biggest accessories brands will find new ways to tweak and update their biggest moneymakers in order to keep shoppers intrigued and engaged. Newness is important, but longevity is what pays the bills, and keeping things fresh for years is a totally different kind of design skill than debuting something flashy and brand new. One of the best brands in the world at this kind of constant refresh is Louis Vuitton, which turns out seemingly endless versions of its many longstanding classics, year after year.

For Winter 2018, Vuitton has decided to reinvent some of its most beloved bags with a fun new detail: a colorful, braided top strap. Depending on the style, the braided details adorn bags in Empreinte (which has tonal straps) or Epi leather, in addition to several in Monogram Canvas. My favorites are those in monogram, where the colorful straps help bring some exuberance and modernity to the traditional look all handbag lovers know.

Price-wise, the braided handles will cost you several hundred dollars more than the bags in their original forms. The Artsy MM in monogram, for instance, increases $540 from $2,000 to $2,540, and the Pochette Metis increases $530 in monogram, from $1,830 to $2,360. The jump for leather bags is similar. If you want one of these new pieces, we suggest you shop quickly—most are already sold out online, but staff at your local boutique may be able to help you source one.

C&K That is how we play Coolki

Good Article in my opinion the bags look awful. I see the bags at the boutique I didn’t like any of them.

I got the 2 empreinte PM’s with the braided handle and adore them. IMO they are more “finished” than the regular ones, of which I have had and sold because the shape didn’t feel quite balanced. These stand up on their own, and the handle is big enough to put your hand all the way through. At least these are better than some of the other stuff they are churning out – patches and new wave, etc.

Eh

I think these handles just made them worse. Maybe with the exception of the Artsy ?????

a lot of these bags were ugly to begin with but LV has figured out the secret sauce to make it uglier

all I see is uncomfortable and heavier.

Too trendy and costly, though I do think it’s nice on the Twist and Neonoe since detachable. It’s too much on the Pochette Metis. I regret missing out on the PM Brogue so I wish they would come out with more variations like that one.

At least, LV is being colorful. Then again, so is a piñata.

All look terrible

Remind me of what Fendi did to their peekaboo a couple years ago.
