Founded by gifted leathermaker Enrique Loewe Roessberg in Madrid, Spain, in 1846, LOEWE is one of the world’s most celebrated leathermakers. With unmatched expertise thanks to its attention to detail and rich history (it is one of Europe’s oldest leather Houses), the brand has quietly crept to the top with no signs of slowing down. And, despite its unparalleled reputation, Loewe has somehow remained an under-the-radar choice for in-the-know fashion lovers.
Helmed by the creative powerhouse Jonathan Anderson, who joined the House in 2013, there is no better time to buy a Loewe bag. Below we’re exploring five reasons why now is the time to discover the Loewe love.
Classic Meets Contemporary
Jonathan Anderson joined the House in 2013, bringing new life to the storied brand and allowing the brand to receive the attention and recognition it deserves. However, unlike other young designers hired to shake up a historic House, Anderson had no plans to modernize with a complete overhaul. Instead, he quickly embraced the brand’s storied DNA, preserving Loewe’s history but offering it through a new lens. The result is an array of shapes and silhouettes that feel fresh and modern but will remain a cornerstone of your wardrobe for years to come, a tricky balance to strike.
You’ll Stand Out from the Crowd
Some brands are ubiquitous without much merit, and others, like Loewe, seem to fly under the radar despite their reputation. While Loewe bags command attention thanks to their impeccable quality and unique shapes, they’re not overwhelmingly omnipresent. If you pay attention and look out for them, you will spot Loewe bags IRL, but owning one is like being part of a secret fashion club. Speaking from personal experience, few bags are as much as a conversation starter as Loewe’s.
The Brand is Really Just So Good Right Now
And it keeps getting better. Loewe has indeed been going through a bit of a renaissance over the last few years, but the last couple of seasons, particularly, have cemented its reawakening. If you talk to any fashion editor or critic, they’re likely to echo the same sentiment: everything Loewe is doing right now is so good. Each season, from new shapes to refreshed versions of some of its most popular bags, brings a new cohort of bags to lust over.
A Taste of the Rainbow
Loewe’s range of color offerings is vast, and only a couple of other brands offer or have offered as much variety as Loewe. The brand’s Puzzle Hobo, for example, comes in 18 (yes, 18!) different colors. Because of the quality of leather Loewe uses, each hue is executed beautifully with the perfect amount of saturation, no matter if it’s a bold bright, or a muted pastel. There are so many options to pick from, and while you can opt for black, brown, or grey, color is, in part, what makes the brand’s bags really stand out.
They Are Closet Staples You’ll Never Want to Part With
While Loewe doesn’t hold its value as well as other brands, owning a Loewe bag is a wise investment in its own way. The shapes are often classic enough that they will never go out of style (like the emblematic Flamenco Bag, the Puzzle, which is now synonymous with the House, or the Amazona). With unsurpassed quality and a wide variety of shapes and sizes to pick from, you can be sure these bags will last for years (and even generations) to come.
Loewe is owned by luxury giant LVMH, which provides the brand with a trove of resources that have boosted its relative recent success. The brand’s elevated status as one of the finest—and hottest—luxury brands of the moment is mostly due to the powerhouse economics of being managed and promoted by LVMH teams, which also controls a huge chunk of the editorial narrative in luxury advertising and publishing. It’s a much more complex story than “fine leathers.”
I absolutely LOVE my Loewe puzzle and want another one in the mini size, It’s a true classic. There is just something about the Loewe vibe. It’s so understated yet cool.
100% agree! Of all the luxury brands, Loewe is my absolute favorite because the designs are so unique and imaginative – truly like carrying a piece of art! I bought a guitar strap for my Puzzle bag, which, much to my surprise, has totally elevated it (proving that you can, in fact, perfect perfection). I am now obsessed with their super-cute charms, and want one for my equally gorgeous Puzzle hobo.
Those mini puzzle bags are to die for. One of the best mini’s of all the mini choices. I think you can actually fit things in that bag…LOL!
The Puzzle bag looks great, the blue color is amazing. I cannot explain it really but have never been interested in purchasing a Loewe bag.
I was the same until i bought one – and now I want more. The leather is gorgeous and the designs of some of the bags are just fantastic.
I think the same of big brands like Chanel and Hermes. Look nice but wouldn’t buy one. Just don’t interest me. We all have our preferences. But for me Loewe is understated enough that more people don’t realise what brand it is than do. I carry them for me not to impress others.
I know the answer: In the USA, Loewe has never had a marketing or logistics according to the brand. They focussed more on the Japanese and Eastern public, opening stores decades ago. Now with JWANDERSON he is making a global company and designing original bags or interpretations of historical bags that together with the quality of the leather and the know-how of the artisans, are true wonders. If you have a Loewe store nearby, try to see and touch the bags.
Hello, you again.. I can’t help but you appear that often by themes of Loewe and your answers are always professional – is this whole blog an advertise of Loewe ? It is cheap, modern and effective to advertise here – very clever but not decent enough for me !
I’m just a loyal follower of Loewe, I don’t work or pay me to speak well. What I am doing is to visualise something that, unfairly due to poorly managed marketing issues, has not been achieved. The quality is there and you just have to see the bags and touch them, since it does not have the fame of Hermes that you take for granted that it is magnificent just for being Hermes, even if it is made of canvas. And to show how little it has been known in the USA, did you know that he has had Narciso Rodríguez as a designer in the 90’s and Stuart Vevers (now in Coach) from 2010 to 2013)??? And on the other hand, it seems disrespectful to me to say that the professionals who write on this blog are “adunciators” or you suggest that they are at the service of the brand.
I was in the Loewe store on Rodeo in December and I have to say they have the most beautiful colors of anyone. And the quality of the bags was excellent as well. Didn’t buy one, but did really admire them.
I seem stuck at this point too. I truly love their bags every time I see them, and yet never carry one to the register… I can’t really explain why. High quality, nice design, lovely leather,…
I wish they still made the Postal bag..so sad I missed out on that one!
Loewe’s design is top-notch, the shape and structure are different from other brands. Kudos to JW Anderson and his team.
I really love Loewe!!
I use my puzzle bag as my daily bag. It is so well made and easy to carry. I’d like to buy a few more, but the price point has gotten higher than I’d like.
On the pre-owned market, they cost much less. I’m considering the mini.
I wish I had a place to try them on nearby. One funny thing about Loewe, my mother had never been one to splurge on handbags-Coach is her luxury bag. Then she saw a navy blue Loewe puzzle online and had to have it. It’s very dear to her.
I was able to get the color and size I wanted in the puzzle bag. I love the creativity with the shoes. I just think they have something unique going on.
I find a lot of people that gm don’t take the plunge don’t because it’s not recognisable. They want a designer bag for show so people know they have spent thousands on the bag.
I love Loewe because people DON’T recognise it unless they know the brand and because of the quality. So beautifully made and crafted unlike the mass produced mainstream designers that everyone can identify easily.
I buy quality bags for me not so other people know what I am carrying. I don’t care for the opinions of others.
I totally agree with you. If you know, you know. I don’t need to advertise a brand or carry the same bag everyone else does!
Sorry don’t know where the “gm” came from. Autocorrect fail…
Ive always liked the look, but the bag is impractical. Too difficult to get in snd out of. The zipper really should detach on one end to make it bigger.
