Tomas Maier designed for Bottega Veneta for over 15 years, and his designs were incredibly well liked and embraced by fans of the classic brand. However as parent company Kering aimed to reach a broader customer base and modernize the brand, Maier was replaced by young designer Daniel Lee. Lee formally reigned under Phobe Philo at Céline. Fans wondered how this change would translate into Bottega Veneta’s bags, and today we have a close look at two of Lee’s new bags for Bottega Veneta.

First up, for Spring 2019 Bottega Veneta introduced us to The Pouch. The Pouch is Lee’s take on a classic clutch, but in an overly exaggerated way. The Pouch is oversized and voluminous. A rigid and structured frame is enveloped by folds of luxuriously soft leather.
Bottega Veneta introduced The Pouch in two different leathers. The first, in Velvet Calf Intrecciato is classically Bottega with a twist, as it’s offered in pops of color (though neutrals are available as well). The red, called ‘lava’, was the most eye catching and it retails for $2,950 via Bottega Veneta

Next, Bottega Veneta introduced The Pouch in Butter Calf, and true to its name the leather is incredibly soft and smooth. This version of The Pouch retails for $2,400 via Bottega Veneta. The Pouch is said to reflect Bottega Veneta’s rich heritage of beautifully crafted leather but with a modern sensibility.
In keeping with the exaggerated theme, for Spring 2019, Lee designed an extra-large tote called the Maxi Cabat. Though you’ll remember this tote from when we introduced it to you in extra-large intrecciato woven leather, it also comes in a black soft crocodile version and it is truly stunning.

The Maxi Cabat is large enough to work as a daily work bag, but it really makes the perfect companion for weekend trips. With overall dimensions of 25.9″ L x 16.9″ W x 6.2″ D, the bag is large enough for a couple of outfits, a pair of shoes and a toiletry bag. Inside, there is a removable card case that attaches to an interior chain as well as a zippered pocket which is perfect for storing valuables. The Maxi Cabat in Nero Soft Croc retails for $44,600—for availability call +1-800-845-6790. You can also shop other versions of the Maxi Cabat via Bottega Veneta.

Those are Zara shoes, right? Are they comfortable?Do you feel that your feet looks weirdly long in them? I have the same pair at home, but I can’t decide whether I should send them back or keep them! Aaah! Please help!
And about the bags, the tote seems quite pretty actually, but the clutch looks quite big and clumsy for a bag without a shoulderstrap or handle?
Yes they are Zara!! They aren’t terrible uncomfortably but aren’t exactly the dance all night kind of shoes. As for the size of the shoe I have a big foot lol so everything looks long on me!
Well, I don’t dance so that’s not a concern of mine (I am a sit at the bar kind of gal, lol).
I don’t think that they look long on you at all, but then I don’t know how your feet look without them either ofc! But something about the shape of them made my (also already long) feet look even longer, haha. But maybe I just need to get used to the toe shape! I’d hate to send them back cause the color is so pretty! I absolutely love how you have styled them by the way!
Thank you! I really love the look of them over all. I don’t think they’ll be super uncomfy for you tbh. I also have wider feet so if your feet are more narrow I bet they will be even better. Also I wear a 10 for reference!
I have a very similar design by Stuart Weitzman and they’re suuuuper comfortable (for high-heels), so you could try buying this same style by a high-end company (I bought mine on ebay for less than $80).

Beautiful bags. Love them all.
Okay bags but NOT Bottega Veneta at all. They also look kind of supersized! I’m kind of petite so I’m sensitive to looking like I’m carrying “mommy’s” bag.
The Maxi Cabat’s croc tiles are small, and it’s patched at the bottom… Not the best quality for $44K
Yeah if it wasn’t stated, I’d think this was croc embossed. It looks cheap. I thought the $44k was a mistake or mislabeled as real croc when it was in fact embossed. Crazy.
Yeah, at least with embossed leather, they would have copied a better quality croc, tiles would match, and without patches LOL
Gorgeous bags.
Beautiful made bag but not BV, more like VB or The Row.
The new BV moving forward? We’ll see!
I was not a fan of Bottega Veneta with the exception of the Knot Clutch.
Still not a fan.
I don’t get the “love” or the “beautiful”. The tote looks too big and the clutch looks sloppy. What am I missing here?
I love the classic woven Bottega bags. I’m all over the red cluth. Me being a taller person size is not a problem on the bags.
I like the clutch, but I prefer the original cabat.
Redundant: “overly exaggerated”. Although I’d actually re-write that entire sentence. Hehe.
Both these bags seem quite impractical for day to day use. The first is hard to carry for day and is too cumbersome for evening. The 2nd seems to be made strictly for people who get driven around and so only have to carry things from their car to the door.
I’ve a BV fan but none of these bags appeal. However, the huge alligator/croco one seems like it’s big enough to stuff in that jerk who always does those “make big money off the internet” posts and then hurl into the polluted Venetian waters. THAT would be worth $44k!!!
The handles have a small drop on the tote, very impractical. But if one has $44k for such a bag, who cares about practicality!
I love all of these bags, but I also love the BV weave in everything.
