Happy September! Autumn-Winter pieces started to arrive in the boutiques two months ago, but the end of summer and the beginning of the school year signal the true start of the season (many French still take time off during August, and in fashion, as goes France, so goes the rest of the world).
There are discernible trends for Autumn-Winter 2024 bags, although production does tend to kick into a higher gear during September, so this analysis is subject to change as we move through the season. There are three new leather colors, plus one additional color which is said to be coming (I have seen photos of a bag, but none for sale as of yet). Autumn-Winter 2024 is looking good so far!

New Hermès Leather Colors for Autumn-Winter 2024
The new leather colors for Autumn-Winter 2024 are Dorè, Gris Platine and Vert Peppermint. Dorè is a beautiful metallic gold; Gris Platine is a light, silvery gray with blue undertones; and Vert Peppermint is a light pale green situated somewhere between Vert Fizz and Vert d’Eau.
Rose Darling, a light pink similar to Rose Sakura but with more yellow undertones, is expected to arrive in at least one style of bag later in the season, which is why I am including it here but not on the full chart – yet.

A Color Analysis
This season seems to offer a wider selection of colors than usual. I have not seen as many Verso offerings as I have during recent seasons (and so far only in neutrals, such as Gold/Etoupe and Mushroom/Biscuit). There are a few tricolor options, including Noir/Etoupe/Ecorce (with GHW), Noir/Bleu Indigo/Bleu Zellige (Mini Kelly, Epsom with PHW) and Jaune Milton/Vert Vertigo/Vert Fizz (Mini Kelly, Epsom with PHW).
Unpacking the Autumn-Winter 2024 Leathers
For leathers, there are notably more bags being offered in Boxcalf and in Ostrich, and Tadelakt is back in use. So far, matte exotic seems to be in higher production than shiny, especially for all of the Kelly bag variations.
New Hardware for Fall
Regarding hardware, Gold is being used increasingly more often, including on bags that have predominantly been made with Palladium hardware, such as the Picotin, Lindy and Evelyne; Rose Gold is still being utilized; and Permabrass is becoming more common.
The Hermès Constance Elan Returns
I am thrilled to see the return of the Constance Elan, which is a wider version of the Constance. There are also more 28cm Kelly bags being produced.
One of the Special Edition bags for the season is the Casaque Etoilèe, a 25cm Kelly with Stars-and-Stripes marquetry; colorways include Rouge Sellier (Epsom)/Noir (Tadelakt)/Rose Darling (Chevre) and Ardoise (Epsom)/Noir (Tadelakt)/Vert Peppermint (Chevre).
Limited-Production bag styles that are still being offered include the Birkin and Kelly en Desordre (in Gold), the Kelly Doll Picto (in Biscuit), the Mini Kelly Picnic (in Menthe), the Cargo Birkin and the Shadow Clutch (in Noir, in Moka, and in Etoupe).
The tagline of this post is so disheartening. Unfortunately, I no longer feel “delighted” by Hermès. I have been a loyal client for almost three decades, first discovering the brand while traveling to Paris with my husband. It was always expensive but with two good-paying jobs, it was a joyful occasional splurge. I remember purchasing my first Kelly bag off the shelf at the St. Honoré boutique. It was an easy, pleasant transaction. There were no weird games to play at the time—a different world. Over the years, I have curated a lovely collection of bags, accessories, and a few pieces of ready-to-wear (especially lovely under Jean-Paul Gaultier’s leadership).
Today, however, I feel that we have been completely priced-out by repeated and exponential increases. I no longer visit the store. Why would I? I am not willing to spend $10,000 on a purse that objectively costs a fraction of that to manufacture. I am also not interested in playing some weird game—buying merchandise I don’t really want just to be offered a bag I actually would enjoy. I guess the American upper-middle class is no longer of interest for Hermès and that’s okay with me. It just makes me a bit sad that others won’t get to know and remember the brand the way I did. That being said, I am very lucky to have a beautiful collection of Hermès bags that many women would dream to own. I understand my privilege and I still enjoy wearing my Hermès goodies. But visiting the store or looking at the collection is no longer “delightful.” It has become a reminder that Hermès is out of reach for those of us who are otherwise certainly considered well-off financially.
Just my old lady thoughts. Thank you for indulging.
You are so right. Ridiculous games to have the ‘privilege’ spending a fortune on a beautiful but very heavy handbag. I have a few Hermes bags but prefer my Goyards!!
Hi, Ceci – I remember the old days, too, although my experience back then was different. It’s definitely a topic I will examine in an upcoming article.
Same for me…. My mom started collecting Hermes handbags before it was popular. I feel in love and was able to pretty much get any bag I wanted just even 10 years ago. Now, the games wow! They want me to prove my love for Hermes haha…. I said does the last 20 years count? Luxury shopping just, in general, isn’t the same.
I think of it as the “Beanie Babies Business Model”, and we all know how that worked out for the Warner company.
Ty Warner owns like half of Santa Barbara and Montecito, so unfortunately it did work out for him. Except for the fact that he’s a stingy curmudgeon that no one in the area likes.
I refer specifically to the Beanie Baby sales mania, not to his personal life.
I share a similar experience and no longer play the game although, admittedly, I did, but briefly. Historically, over the 20+ years I’ve been doing business with Hermes I was always offered 2 bags a year and sometimes more if my SA knew I was looking for a particular color. However, in the past few years that has changed. Now I’m being told I need to “support the brand” i.e. buy things I don’t want in order to get a bag. Wasn’t 20+ years “supporting the brand”? Now, I’m no longer interested and I, like you, have an enviable bag collection that I can pass on eventually to my granddaughter.
YAWN. I stopped finding Hermes to be desirable almost 10 years ago when tacky reality stars got their grimy hands on Birkin bags. Today, it is in a far worse state.
I also find it interesting that Hermes is supposedly so exclusive but I see Hermes bags everywhere. I suppose some of them are probably counterfeits, but I know so many women who all carry the same Kelly or Birkin… I find that… boring? Unimaginative? Why would you want to look the same as everyone else in your social circle? I love a woman who makes different and unique choices and embraces style and not brands.
Specifically all buyers had all colors and all available, I was in NW hermes with buyers I follow her in instagram and they didn’t gave me chance to buy something from bag but I have 4 yers history but she get 1 birkin in eve she sold it online 24.000🤦♀️ next 3 days she get one more I think Hermes chits us so badly
Hermes has ruined its own reputation with this games. I was a new Hermes client who genuinely enjoyed their products across all sectors of the company. After 2 years of bad customer service and attitude from my SA, I’ve had enough abuse and will be taking my dollars elsewhere.
So here’s a weird thing. I’m currently in Paris. Two days in logging in to “Rendevous” to score a coveted appointment. Walked in to the Faubourg store. Asked nicely if I could buy a bag. Asked to step aside. Bought a gold Evelyne (my third) with gold hardware. Had my pick of bags, (but no Kelly’s or Birkins offered). But my choice of every other bag. Debunks all the comments! I have no idea how that happened but for €3000 with a VAT discount to come, I’m pretty happy about it!
I think there’s an extreme lack of consistency across stores. My experiences at different locations have been anywhere between nice and “you people are so awful I’m tempted to rain hellfire on you.”
Absolutely. And I wasn’t bragging, just flabbergasted that simply walking up to the coveted small leather goods podium worked. And it didn’t work for the person behind me. They were told to try registering online. It’s a messed up system.you shouldn’t have to work that hard to spend that much money,
I bought my first Birkin and my HAC directly from the store as well. There were no games to play. But I think that both times I was shopping at a regional French store, which are likely less overwhelmed by bag requests than their international hub counterparts. And maybe being a man played in my favor (?): “He’s too dumb to know any better.” hahaha I don’t know.
I sold that Birkin to buy a Tesla last year. Never looked back. I kinda outgrew the bag to be honest. Beautiful to look at but not practical enough. After a while, I was like “I have 12K sitting on a shelf… why??”
I don’t hate on Hermès but I’m not obsessed with it. Their shoes are fine. I like the few pairs I own. But Bottega Veneta shoes fit me way better… Their belts are lovely as long as you stay away from HONDA H buckles. It’s kinda meh for me now. Been there, done that kinda thing.
And service at Hermès is so hit and miss… Some SAs are really terrific while others are a disgrace. It may be true across all luxury brands but it’s particularly jarring when a basic scarf is $2,000.
Thank you for posting the new colors and skins! I love the Rose Darling color – this coming from a person who isn’t a big pink person.
I appreciate that the prices of Hermes items have gone up and could therefore price some people out due to budget, lack of desire to spend so much on a bag, or so many other reasons. I would also then believe this would be the case for many other luxury brands as their prices have gone up considerably. This is also seen in other luxury items like art, jewelry, watches, cars which too have seen skyrocketing price increases and often also require a long standing relationship. This is all to say that while no one is happy about the increasing prices across the board, I’m still delighted by Hermes.
Thank you for your comment! I am no fan of the price increases, either, or shenanigans that may happen at certain boutiques; I just enjoy writing about the beautiful offerings that frequently capture my interest and my imagination, regardless of what I personally purchase. 🙂
