Check Out the New Fendi Flip Bag and More in the Brand’s Brand New Resort 2019 Collection

Fendi's newest day bag is ultra-versatile, and potentially the brand's most casual day bag offering

Bags that try to make being “multifunction” part of their look can go wrong so easily, and almost always do. Handbags aren’t gadgetry, and cleverness isn’t necessarily an asset—get too cute about how to incorporate extra top handles or how to make a bag both a tote and a hobo, and suddenly it’s more Rubik’s cube than luxury accessory. The Fendi Flip Bag, part of Fendi’s Resort 2019 collection, manages to make extreme versatility work on both functional and aesthetic levels.

For satchels with rigid top handles and optional shoulder straps, the competing carry options can be a problem if you actually want to use the bag: no matter what, there’s often something drooping or poking awkwardly. The Flip solves this in a way that’s pretty straightforward: it uses flat instead of rolled top handles, and because the bag is soft, the entire top portion folds down when the bag’s being used with its shoulder strap. In the tradition of the Peekaboo, that means you get a look at the contrasting interior, which lends the bag a geometric cleanliness.

Speaking of the Peekaboo, it also gets a bit of a makeover for Resort 2019, by way of a version that’s altered slightly to turn it into a hobo. Beyond that, there are new camera bags and long-strapped versions of the classic Baguette, plus Peekaboos, Kan Is and bucket bags to fill things out. Overall, it’s a very strong, very wearable bag collection that I’m excited to see hit stores.
