Kate Spade Chooses a Moody Boho Vibe for Its Fall 2018 Bags

The usually bright and preppy brand is getting a little darker

In the recent past, Kate Spade has always had a pretty straightforward brand identity: pretty and feminine, preppy but irreverent. Bright colors, a little bit of glitter here and there, an occasional floral. The brand has always closely tied itself to New York City, but in my mind, I’ve always associated it with the traditionally ladylike aesthetic of the South, where I’m from. For Fall 2018, though, Kate Spade has chosen a slightly different path.

Suede and fringe are not two things I’d commonly associate with the brand’s aesthetic, but the new collection has plenty of both, often paired with trendy ring handles. The look will feel familiar to those who follow the whims of Instagram’s young, stylish stars, and for fall, the bags are rendered in moody tones of burgundy and black.
