I don’t mention it much in these parts, but I’m a big, enormous vintage fan. At a certain point, I think I hit a wall with regular shopping – I felt like I had seen everything before it hit stores, so once it was there, I was often underwhelmed and ready for something different. The curse of working in the fashion industry, eh? Which is why so many fashion girls are unrepentant vintage hounds; it’s the final frontier of clothing consumerism, where only those with the best eye will survive.

Vintage handbags still don’t have much of a draw for me because utilitarian leather items tend to degrade a great deal over time, which is where items with a heavy retro influence like the Valentino Laser Cut Patent Evening Bag come in. It’s the kind of thing I’d find in a second-hand shop and dearly love, except his one is brand new and totally pristine.

Sometimes, a traditional box or envelope clutch feels too obvious for a special night out, as does basic black. This little bag is still neutral, which means it can go into your regular rotation for evening looks, but it’s special and details in a way that little leather pouches usually aren’t. The tiny laser-cut flowers are beautiful, and the delicate gold chain strap is the perfect accent, not to mention convenient if you need the use of both your hands. Not only that, but for Valentino, the price is downright reasonable. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $595.

Holy crap I love it!!! And I am absolutely loving the neutral/texture subtle interest this bag is all about. I think the whole new modernism is about economic style, recycling elements and really being smart about using them in your wardrobe ala Kate & Pippa. Thinking about your entire look rather than just going out there and gorging yourself on trends. Picking pieces out carefully & folding them into your existing closet.

In general I’m not a fan of laser cut designs. However, I think this bag is beautiful and elegant. It would lend itself to a variety of events.

Very nice, I believe that Valentino is doing very very cute bags and finally the prices are “reasonable” and not crazy like The Row or Balmain or VB….

I could actually afford this!! I’m very tempted too as this bag is just so pretty and cute. I’m very surprised that a laser cut bag like this is so “cheap”.

It’s nice. But for the price all you’re getting is a coin purse. It’s TINY. I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but I just don’t think this is a good deal. Oh well, it is what it is. Everyone has something they don’t agree with. Would love to see this in person just to gaze at it, but not to buy.

Really, really nice ! I am not a big fan of the rose color, but for this bag I would make an exception. http://spirale-rouge.blogspot.com/

I absolutely love these slightly vintage evening bags that are popping up. Its the best of the 90s returned to us.
