I remember spending all summer thinking about my backpack purchase that would come for the following school year. My choice was Jansport, but there were options. Colors, patterns, sizes. I wanted to show up for the new school year with the right backpack. It’s something that took more mind-space than I care to admit.
Post-school, I moved from backpacks to other designer bags, typically not of the backpack variety. However, some of my favorite fashion brands have made backpacks cool over the years, allowing the shape to take part of my bag-loving brain space once more.
I haven’t splurged on one yet, but when I saw the newly released Dior Caro Backpack, that younger version of myself that used to plan for this very functional accessory felt delighted.
Luxury Meets Practicality
One reason backpacks aren’t as beloved is their bulkiness and sheer utilitarian feel. We typically opt for a luxury bag that offers all the usability we seek, with the added benefit of holding many items. However, luxury backpacks are different, and the Dior Caro Backpack is leading the pack.
The Dior Caro bag was first introduced in 2021 and offered a modern twist on classic Dior elements. New for Cruise 2025, the House introduces the backpack version, which melds modern and elegant style with all the same classic touches we adore from the brand.
The lambskin leather backpack with Macrocannage topstitching immediately signifies the bag as Dior. The top flap closure features an antique gold-finish metal CD signature that opens to show the main compartment. While we are still on the exterior details, there are two small exterior flap pockets for more compact needs. These pockets offer a more utilitarian feel but still leave the bag looking very luxe.
Speaking of luxe, I love the gold-finish handle atop each backpack. Typically, a backpack has a handle to hang the bag, but it’s flimsy and easily breaks (just ask Millie; her current backpack lasted two weeks before the handle snapped). While I don’t foresee hanging this bag by the handle, it’s such a subtle yet charming touch that gives it one additional standout feature.
There are two adjustable leather straps, making this backpack a backpack. You can wear it slung over one shoulder (cool girl vibe, natch) or use both straps to wear it like a proper backpack. It’s your choice how you style this bag, and I think with medium and small sizes, you can get the feel of a backpack with all the styles of a designer bag.
The flap and drawstring closure lead to the interior, which features calfskin lining. There’s also an interior slip pocket and an open compartment for items. I tested this bag with smaller pouches for separation, which worked perfectly.
There are a few colorways and sizes, the smaller of which has only one exterior pocket, but the rest of the bag features the same elements.

LVMH back to their gimmicks – this is so ugly
I would love it if it didn’t have that huge logo on it. It is just so out there and really does make it ugly.
I admittedly have a “big D” clutch I bought years ago but you don’t see it when my hand is over it so it isn’t so out there like this. This is so tacky. They ruined what could have been a truly perfect, practical option.
True! And may be cost under €100 to make these new products? 😂
Of course they don’t pay laborers and surcharge 100x the cost
The large backpack would be “ok” without the two small buckled pockets. However, loving that white vase! It’s so unique!
Yes, it is really cool! Our friend got it here. It is even reasonably priced!
As a backpack girl, I am obsessed with the bigger one! It is so chic
I like it too! I used my Chanel Urban Spirit backpack constantly, I had to replace it with a Prada nylon backpack for durability. I have always been a fan of backpacks as they are so useful! IMO backpacks can carried by anyone at any age.
