Late last week, on a bright, sunny, and breezy afternoon, Coach held its Spring 2022 presentation in midtown Manhattan. The show was held at Pier 76, walking distance from the brand’s New York City office. While the show was held in midtown, the collection’s vibe was completely downtown, possessing the sort of effortless cool-girl (or guy) vibe that we’ve come to expect from Coach these days. The collection’s RTW was a mix of elevated basics and streetwear that meets luxury essentials. The presentation completely complimented the collection’s feel, featuring skateboarders and beginning with a kitschy clip from Coach TVs ‘Public Access Programming,’ which is a play on 90s TV And infomercials.
As for the accessories, which we are all here for, one bag stole the show, and it is clearly going to be a huge push for the brand. For Spring 2022, the brand has dipped into its archives to reinvent its Cashin Carry tote. The tote’s namesake creator Bonnie Cashin once said:
“The best-designed handbag in the world is the paper shopping bag, so I didn’t try to improve on it”
Cashin was the first lead designer hired by Coach in 1962 and, for many, is considered a pioneer of American sportswear. This collection featured various odes to her legacy, such as the bright plaids and houndstooth prints drawn from the Coach archives. Though the most notable is, of course, the Cashin Carry Tote, which appeared on the runway toted by models both male and female. The classic and minimalistic shape was seen in many versions, from bright and bold smooth leathers to plaids, tweeds, and quirky prints, the Cashin Carry tote’s simple shape makes for the perfect blank canvas. Other versions featured gold-framed kiss locks, which pay homage to Cashin’s bag designs from the past.
In addition to the Cashin Carry totes seen on the runway, Coach also released a limited-edition line of buy-it-now pieces to coincide with the Spring 2022 presentation. The collection of buy-it-now pieces debuted on the same day as the show and includes a Glovetanned Leather Cashin Carry Tote 22, which retails for $550 and is available on Coach.com and in select stores.
