By now, we know the visual cues we can expect from Stuart Vevers at Coach. His fascination with the American West has been increasingly interwoven with Coach’s long New York lineage, resulting in an ode to the gritty glamor of 1980s New York, lightened up with some cowboy details. That’s exactly what you’ll find in the just-released lookbook for Coach 1941’s Pre-Fall 2018 collection, plus some references to Coach’s recently super-popularity in the mid-2000s.
All of the bags in the lookbook are reimagined versions of former designer Bonnie Cashin’s iconic Coach Duffel, and they appear to come in at least three sizes. The featured versions are all embellished in some way, whether it’s with lace-up detail, patches or flashes of animal print, but it seems likely that more subtle options will be plentiful as well. A couple bags also featured the reintroduction of Coach’s longtime signature print, which makes sense; Louis Vuitton and Gucci have done a bang-up job revitalizing consumer perception of their logos in recent season, so why not Coach?
The overall feeling of the collection is fun and youthful, and the revitalization of the duffel makes a lot of sense in a bag market where hobos and long-strapped shoulder bags are having a moment. Take a look at the full collection below; you can expect to see it in stores this summer.
