Last month Celine presented its Winter 2021 collection, CELINE PARADE, which was a continuation of the brand’s current Spring 2021 collection. A playful ode to youth culture, the collection is designed to be fashion-forward, but approachable and easy to wear. Hedi Slimane presented a mix of bags, both new and old, with classics such as the Triomphe appearing alongside new shapes.
One of Slimane’s newest designs for Celine takes a classic box silhouette and updates it with a slightly more relaxed shape, softer leather and a locked detail. Though this new shape, called the Tabou Bag, made its debut on the runway a month ago, it already hit Celine.com and we’ve got another look at the Tabou, which is coming to boutiques later this year.

The Tabou is crafted from calfskin leather and is fully lined in leather as well – lambskin to be exact. The simple silhouette is characterized by its accordion-like side gussets and flap closure that features a slim leather strip that attaches the bag’s flap to its body. Finished with a hanging gold-tone lock that sits atop a snap closure, the Tabou is simple and sleek, meant to be worn over the shoulder or crossbody as the bag’s strap is adjustable and also removable. Inside there are two main compartments, and with overall dimensions of 6″ L x 9″ W x 3″ D the bag is designed to hold your everyday essentials.
This simple silhouette is neither groundbreaking nor new by any means, but one thing that Slimane is highly skilled at is making youthful fashion feel both attainable and approachable. The Tabou feels like that exactly, a trendy shape that can be worn by many and styled so many different ways. At the end of the day, that’s everything a luxury handbag should be. From weekend errands when you want your look to be downtown Parisian cool to weekday power-looks and beyond, there’s room in your closet for the Tabou. Currently the bag is shown in navy blue and tan in the medium size via Celine for $2,450, and you can sign up to be notified when the bag becomes available.
This is one of the new Celine bags that I actually find quite pleasing to look at. Hopefully they don’t discontinue the Box just because they came out with this similar one…
They won’t. The classic bag has been around in some iteration for decades. In fact they released a new size a few years ago and did a price decrease. The classic isn’t going anywhere.
Is it just me or has the pandemic made me want to spend my $ elsewhere? I’ll probably never spend $2500 on a bag ever again.
I’m loving Fashionphile’s selection of excellent condition, previously owned bags. I’m pretty ok with last seasons choices! Specially since I love bags I’ve owned for 10-15 years!

It looks nice and very well made, nothing thrilling about it though, I’m sure this is cliche by this point but I miss the old Céline. At least we had some variation in the silhouettes.
Another bag adorned with a lock… sigh.
Strongly dislike all his designs for Celine.
Who did it better? LV or Celine? All I think of is the rendezvous when I see this bag.
Yay another boring bag from the archive. Yippie! Like come on man, can we get anything worth semi-salivating over, but no we get this bag of dust.
i hear le sportsac has TDF bags…..whiner
What gets me about the current designer is that he copies…sorry, “draws inspiration” from other designers. It’s so stale & unoriginal. I’m curious when his tenure ends; things have to improve because, under his watch, Celine is going down the toilet!
Dooney & Burke is where it is at—TDF you whiner
