Celine’s Spring 2021 Show Was An Ode to the Ultimate Cool-Girl

Featuring Baseball caps and bags galore

Earlier this week Hedi Slimane presented his latest collection for Celine in Monaco at a sports venue which played off of the casual-cool aesthetic presented for spring 2021. The collection overall was a playful, and extremely wearable, set of youthful pieces designed to show the hope and optimism in this time. Boxy blazers were dressed down with jeans, sneakers and baseball caps, proving that runway fashion as we know it is on the precipice of change. While fashion as a whole has become enamored with the trends of today’s youth, this collection proves than no one is more obsessed with the younger generation’s stylistic tendencies than Slimane, who with this collection was inspired by Parisian culture with a new, youthful edge.

When it comes to the bags, and there were many, Slimane focused on silhouettes like the re-launched Sulky bag, which appeared on the runway in various shades of matelassé leather. The brand’s classic Ava shoulder bag was seen throughout as was Celine’s vintage-esque Triomphe Canvas, which is a big push for the brand this season. Seen in both classic brown and milky-beige, the archival print appears on the Ava bag and other designs like the Tambour and an oversized tote. Though this collection mainly focused on over-the-shoulder silhouettes, Celine’s newest and more structured shape, the Lunch Box, was shown hand carried by models in smooth leather and shiny lizard.
