Lockheart Madeline Leather Messenger Bag

I’ve become a huge fan of Lockheart bags over the past few years and it’s mostly due to the fact that these bags are unlike most others on the market. The bags are highly unique and boast amazing attention to detail. Ok, not to say that other handbags *don’t* showcase attention to detail, but I think you follow what I am saying.

I am used to Lockheart bags being soft, feminine and a bit bohemian. Just as I began to expect this from this brand, they throw a complete curve-ball. While I was a bit shocked at first, I spent some serious time looking and the bag and began to appreciate it for everything that it is.

Dicha Pavlova Bag

Yesterday one of our lovely Australian readers, Baguette, wrote in to ask me to weigh in on the Dicha Pavlova Bag. Because I’m always happy to oblige someone that has already done the work of finding a bag on my behalf, I’m here to fulfill her request.

She’s a vintage lover just like I am, which for both of us also extends to the love of both vintage-style pieces that aren’t actually old and restored things that have been made to look new. The Dicha Pavlova bag is the latter, but sadly, it’s not working for me or the reader that brought it to my attention. I couldn’t tell you exactly why Baguette doesn’t like it, but I can speak for myself and say that it’s just way too much.

Lauren Merkin Tess Painted Minibag

Not too long ago, I wrote a post about how much I don’t like colored python bags. I was really certain that that’s how I felt, and I didn’t think twice about it. Well, because that’s just how I am, I seem to have managed to prove myself wrong. I really, really like the Lauren Merkin Tess Painted Minibag.

I’ve seen other multicolored python bags that I liked since then as well – it was like as soon as I put that sentiment out into the world, the universe set its sights on proving that I’m an idiot. Normally, I would feel a little weird about that, but if it means that I keep seeing cute bags then I wouldn’t change things for the world.

Lanvin Happy Snakeskin Shoulder Bag

There are a number of things that never cease to spark a hint of curiosity within me. PurseBlog posts fall into this category. As I sipped on my coffee this morning and read Amanda’s post on the Prada Saffiano Print Tote, something she said really resonated with me. She mentioned how some bags don’t seem to make sense until you see them in person. I couldn’t agree with her more. So, I drifted off a bit and began thinking of so many bags that I wouldn’t give a second look to online but can barely keep my hands off in person.

And then, in the very next thought, I began thinking about the bags I look at online and wish I could reach through my computer, grab and run. Lanvin bags fall in this category.

M Missoni Long Messenger Bag

I spent a few hours yesterday looking at lots of new spring handbags, and if there’s one thing I noticed, it’s that there are a lot of elongated black messenger/hobo hybrids out there. Possibly too many – Barneys COOP was full of them, as were Intermix and the contemporary bag section at Saks.

It’s a smart handbag for any girl to have in her closet right now since it sits firmly at the intersection of fashion and function, but I’m not sure if it’d be the bag I’d make if you want people to notice your neophyte handbag line. The people behind the M Missoni Long Messenger Bag probably need to take a lesson from Diane Von Furstenberg when it comes to gaining attention for an established brand that doesn’t specialize in accessories.

Prada Saffiano Print Tote

I’ll be the first to admit that fashion bloggers are often working with a somewhat limited medium. The industry’s recently increased presence on the internet, both in retail and editorial sectors, has given people like me a great deal of material to work with when writing criticism and making sartorial recommendations, but there’s just nothing like the real thing.

We make our best educated guesses about what a bag will look and feel like in person based on what we know of the brand’s construction standards in the past and the pictures we see on the internet, which are often quite good, depending on the website that they come from. Sometimes, however, a bag just doesn’t make sense until you see it in person, for whatever reason. That’s exactly what happened yesterday when I saw the Prada Saffiano Printo Tote – I had seen pictures of the bag before and wasn’t terribly interested, but in person, it was love at first sight.

Jill Stuart Frida Pouchette Bag

I’ve been noticing bucket bags everywhere I look lately. Well, mostly when perusing online, but seriously, they are everywhere. It seems as though these bags are quite the rage for the spring. I was slow to warm to this trend but I am starting to appreciate them more and more as time passes.

These bags are small but tend to pack quite a punch. When done and worn properly, a small bag like this is the perfect accessory and a quick way to glam up your outfit.

Maison Martin Margiela Reflector Clutch

Just when I think that nothing a handbag designer does could possibly surprise me, someone goes and figures out a way to make me look twice. Thank God for innovation, even if it’s a little weird – without people trying new things, we’d all be carrying around the same black leather tote, and it takes a lot of ingenuity to go from the idea of a plain, utilitarian bag to the creation of something as fantastically weird as the Maison Martin Margiela Reflector Clutch

Yep, that’s right. Reflectors, meaning the little plastic things that people stick on the backs of their bikes so that cars won’t run them over at night. The clutch is embellished with those.

Alexander Wang Rocco is heavy and lacks shape

I both tweeted and facebooked about being extremely let down by a new handbag purchase. And this is it.

The Alexander Wang Rocco in a style that I was obsessing over for its sporty chic vibe. This version of the Rocco had my heart. The wavy-stitched detailing added such a nice dimension to the luggage-colored leather, alongside the ridged silver tone studs at the bottom. And when I saw it online I had to have it. Perfection!

Marc by Marc Jacobs Kelsey Zipped Leather Bag

This is awesome. Ok, well this bag is awesome for several reasons, but one of them has to do with the name of the bag. As all of you handbag lovers out there know, many designers use people’s names in the names of certain handbags. Designers we’ve talked to say they draw inspiration from people with those names as well as the sheer thought of what someone with a given name embodies.

Unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to talk to Mr. Jacobs about his inspiration behind this particular creation of his, but I have to say, Kelsey is a perfect name. You have to understand, I say this because I have a friend named Kelsey and frankly, this bag is sooooooo her!
