Jimmy Choo Tube Clutch

Jimmy Choo Tube Clutch

Hot pink AND Leopard print. And glitter flecks throughout. Sound tacky right? It most certainly can be an awfully over-the-top combination, but somehow Jimmy Choo pulls it off in this clutch. Not meant to everyday use, not meant to be anything other than a statement piece, the Jimmy Choo Tube Clutch pulls in eyes with its outlandish pink, leopard, and glitter combination. This is one of those take-out-for-girls-night clutches. Everything about it seems too colorful, too printed, too sparkly, but it just kind of works. Don’t get me wrong, I am not about to buy it. But in my world of no price tag on anything, I would so rock this clutch with a pair of skinny jeans, heels, and a party top. Buy through Net A Porter for $1095.

Yves Saint Laurent Spiral Clutch

Ever find a bag that just SPEAKS to you? Like, on a personal level that other people may not understand? That’s what the Yves Saint Laurent Spiral Clutch is doing to me. And I’d love to…nay, I HAVE TO…have it.

Yves Saint Laurent Spiral Clutch

See, I’m a writer. I’ve wanted to be a writer since I was six. Writers often have an odd relationship with the old-school tools of our trade; pens, notebooks, things like that. I’ve even know writers that collect vintage typewriters. When I was little, I’d use the stray dollars and coins I collected from various things (mostly from my mom. Hi, mom!) to go to the school store (do they have those in elementary school anymore?) to buy office supplies. Pens, pencils, notebooks. I still have an inordinate amount of pens in my apartment and, until recently, had an entire cup-holder filled with them in my car. I also find it incredibly difficult to throw away a notebook I’ve written anything in, even if it was just schoolwork from a college career that’s been over for more than a year. It’s not a fixation I think about; pens and notebooks are just things I’ve always liked. And, as such, I love this clutch. The reference is done in a way that is so sleek and irreverent that I can’t help but smile when I look at it. Even for those that aren’t writers, I have to believe that this is interesting enough to have a certain sort of appeal. Buy through Saks for $395.

Mulberry Ostrich Bayswater

Mulberry Ostrich Bayswater

This is an entirely late start to our day here at Purse Blog. Amanda was off this week as she is moving, Shannon is getting ready to move to California next week, and I am recovering from surgery. That leaves Vlad and you all know he is not much of a Purse Blog poster (though he does showcase the most amazing handbag photography!). And that is why we are way late today.

I have always had a thing for the Mulberry Bayswater. I did see a ponyhair up close and was disappointed, the body did not hold its shape very well like I imaged the Bayswater would. But leather is completely different from a thinner pony hair body and I crave seeing this bag in person. The tan Mulberry Ostrich Bayswater is offset with a gold-tone signature plaque fastening at the front. This rendition is exclusive to Net-A-Porter and one of those perfectly chic yet not overly feminine bags. It looks strong yet simple. The shape is similar to a Hermes Birkin which is a highly coveted shape. Mulberry bags have a large following and the Bayswater is their most known style. Is this the Bayswater for you? Buy through Net A Porter for $2795.

Barneys Display: Did they go too far?

Jul 23, 2009 / Posted in Blog Debates, In The News by Megs Mahoney Dusil.

Barneys Bloody Window Display

Barneys New York took a major leap in a recent window display. But the chances they took on this window display may have cost them more than they thought. The mannequins in the Barneys window were dressed to kill, with a blood splattered window display and mannequins being attacked while wearing Helmut Lang and A.L.C..

The display did not stay up long. Once Racked.com covered the display, news stations were calling Barneys to ask about it. Though Simon Doonan, creative director of Barneys, was out of town as the display went up, he said this crossed the line and compared it to “someone seeing a bad Hitchcock movie.” Be assured heads will be rolling from creative display team after this incident. Alexander McQueen Skull Knuckle Duster Clutch

Been here, covered this. We were crushing on the first Alexander McQueen Knuckle clutch and the whipsnake rendition is hot hot hot. Tagbags: Creating Jobs and Stylish Purses

Maud Clutch SM Though we love our bags and our style-mindedness, it’s always good to give back to the community. And what’s better than finding brands to support that seek to do just that? Enter Tagbag, a company that makes bags from recycled license plates and inner tubes from South Africa. And if you know your way around a car, you know that that means a pretty durable bag. So here’s the Sparknotes version of the background: on a trip to Cape Town to do relief work, South Africa, Meeshee Scherrei picked up a bag made of license plates. Pretty unique, right?

That’s what Scherrei thought, and she also realized that by employing people in South Africa to make the bags, she could improve the well being of many people. Voila, the idea for Tagbags was born. Now, all Tagbags are made in South Africa by the people of the Kayamandi township, which has been particularly hard-struck by poverty and AIDS. The lives of the Kayamandi people depend on Tagbags, because ultimately, the more Tagbags are sold, the more people the company can employ. And that will lead to Scherrei’s goal of changing the village for the better.
