I’ve never had much of a problem forming an opinion and then expressing it, and although I have plenty of thoughts about the Kaufmanfranco Suede Utility Skirt, as soon as I try to put fingers to keys to articulate those thoughts, only one thing comes out: WTF. I mean. I don’t even…I can’t.

Although this skirt does solve one important handbag problem that I can think of. If you’re out having drinks with your friends and you have one (or four) too many, you’ll never lose your handbag. Unless you lose your skirt, I guess, but if that happens, then losing your purse probably isn’t the biggest of your problems.

I knew a guy in college who liked to wear what he referred to as “utilikilts.” They looked stupid on him, although I think that was part of why he wore them in the first place, and this will look stupid on you. Even worse? It costs nearly two grand, which means that you’ll be paying far more than you ever should for a kitschy, nonbasic skirt that doubles as an extremely expensive fanny pack. Not a good look, girls. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $1895.

OMGGGGGGG!! why?!! that thing is ugly! I couldn’t imagine wearing something like that?! where would I wear it 2?! (ipad)

  • Kim

I think this would be great fun, on a guy. If a girl is wearing it, it will be tragic. (ipad)

  • Kelly

    WTF is right! (iPad)

  • nick

I think it is interesting. It is probably better not to put too much stuff in this bag. LOL. (ipad)

  • Shana

You summed it up bee-yoo-ti-fully: WTF (ipad)

  • Redo My Shoe

This is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen. I can’t believe net-a-porter is hosting this kind of absurdity.

    Do not like! (ipad)

  • Vitta

I’m not surprised that this innovative luxury piece causes such a “WTF” reaction with people who consider Snooky or Kim K fashion icons. It would definitely not work well with the 8-inch “street walker” heels and a huge gaudy rhinestone necklace… However, the upper crust girls with means will definitely welcome it. Love net-a-porter — they really know luxury.

  • Marianna

I think it would work better as a kilt! (ipad)

  • Leah

This is offensively awful. And for $2k?! Just got to a Renaissance Faire and get one for $200… if you must. (ipad)

  • Miriam

    That’s horrible (ipad)

  • quimerula

    Really, WTF? (ipad).

  • suz

Yikes! that’s really ugly….sometimes a great notion does not translate….

Too bad it’s suede – it would get ruined in the rain ;) (ipad)

LOL! This is material for the Man Repeller blog! Holy Mother of Hideousness! I needed a laugh today. Thank you! (ipad)

  • Britney Anderson (Saenz)

Good idea but the material and color aren’t really my style. (ipad)

  • SS

This skirt-like thing is really awful. Perhaps it’s like communism – better in theory than in practice. (ipad)

  • Jen

I’m trying to imagine loading that thing up with everything that I currently put into my purse (Kindle, iphone, bberry, wallet, sunglasses, makeupbag, magazine, newspaper, etc.). I would be walking lopsided! (ipad)

    • Vitta

You need 2 bags to carry Kindle and iphone and bberry and magazine and newspaper and wallet and sunglasses and makeup kit. Or perhaps a cart on wheels… No pouch will do, that’s for sure!

  • babe

    nope.

  • Justine

    OMG!!!! UGLY!!!! (ipad)

They have got to be joking. (ipad)

LOL OMG that’s so disgusting! I wouldn’t even wear that skirt out if it didn’t have that ugly bag attached! (ipad)

  • nini

    no…just no. (ipad)

  • Kells

I really wish I could see a picture with someone wearing it. Not because I like it one bit, but because I feel like I need to see that hilarity! (ipad)

    • Vitta

Just click on the Net-a-Porter link in the Amanda’s post and you will see the complete outfit. On that beautiful model with gorgeous body, it looks pretty impressive!

  • ann

I’d be afraid to have the bag be heavy and have the skirt slip off (especially for narrow hipped ladies) (ipad)

  • Tonya

I hate when people “assume” something about you based on your taste….Just because I don’t like this horrible item doesn’t mean I consider KimK or Snooky fashion icons….

And even someone with wealth wore this thing would still be UGLY!

    • Vitta

“Hate” people for a different opinion on fashion? Well, that’s new! LOL

  • lilobubbletea

I still want a purse…. especially compared to a skirt like this. (ipad)

So when will this be at the Outnet? (ipad)

Surely this is somebody’s idea of a joke. Either that or a novelty piece that they maybe expect to sell one of. Ever. (ipad)

  • greenpixie

No. No no no no. (ipad)

  • Maggie

    hahaha… No! (ipad)

  • Swags

I can’t believe size 6 in this is sold out. That means somewhere out there, there are people sporting this item. (ipad)

    • Vitta

Yep. Size 6 is sold out. That’s exactly the point – people have different tastes, which often depends on their exposure to high fashion, and means. So, it’s really not in good taste to trash other people’s taste. Yet constructive criticism is always fun to hear.

      • Mochababe73

Are you the opinion police or just a hypocrite. Because, if I’m not mistaken, you just trashed people who didn’t like the garment. You do remember saying that those who like Snooki and Kim Kardashian’s style as having bag taste.
This is a blog for opinions. The blogger herself gives opinions as do others. My suggestion to you is that you may want to try a more utopian blog in which everyone agrees with everyone else. I love reading everyone’s opinions and perspectives and find none offensive.
This is fashion. It’s supposed to be fun and some just take things a little too seriously.

      • Vitta

Mochababe73 – Exactly, this is fashion. So relax and have fun reading all opinions, including mine, which is probably the only positive among 60 “WTF” posts — encouraged by the negative, sarcastic “this will look stupid on you” tone of the editorial — which caused my “Snooky” reference. Perhaps this unique garment is not as “stupid” as presented, since such a classy site like Net-a-Porter is offering it and size 6 is sold out? There’s no need for rudeness and “WTF” comments on any blog. And no need to tell people what they “should do” and where they “should go” (read your own posts), if they disagree with you. This is a free country. No?

  • Ellen

It looks like something kind of cool from a hardware store, so I am shocked that this costs $2000. While it is unique, it is also hideous. (ipad)

  • atrophia

It’s way too expensive, but I like the idea. The execution, however, does leave something to be desired. I think the utilikilts work better for this sort of thing.

  • 19yearslater

I took the advice of one of the comments and looked at this skirt bag on the model and it showed me that NO ONE can pull this weird thing off. It should not exist. If someone needs a purse on a skirt or pants try Tripp at Hot Topic. That way looking stupid costs only $40 or so. (ipad)

    • Vitta

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Considering that the size 6 is sold out, I bet those people who had $2,000 to spare on this unique skirt with an oversized patch pocket (that’s how it is advertised on Net-a-Porter) would strongly disagree with your idea of what “looking stupid” means. In any case, it is a common wisdom that trashing other people’s taste is never in good taste. Right?

  • spanish moss

    oh, bloody ick! (ipad)

  • Joy

What an awful idea!! And waaaayyyyy too expensive. (iPad)

  • swati

As always, it looks pretty good on the model at net-a-porter but would look highly ridiculous in real life. pass. (ipad)

  • edoardo

I lvoe when desigenr purpose nes things but they should think also to the beauty. Here teh desigenr forgot the “beuty” and think only to make a product more or less new and to earn a lot of money becuase of the addition fo thet stupid purse. No, this is the worst creation with bags I’ve ever seen after the “bag used like headpieces” of Mizrahi some years ago!!

    http://fashiondoesntexist.blogspot.com/

  • Mochababe73

What a waste of beautiful suede. I understand the idea, but the execution lacked panache.
However, we all know that one day, in this lifetime, someone is going to wear that skirtbag.

    • Mochababe73

      I forgot to put (iPad)

So who would buy this? I’m kind of liking it in a weird way for some reason, lol. Perhaps because it’s different and I just want someone to wear one and see it with my own eyes.(ipad)

  • ninjaninja

It’s one of those throw away bags you take on camping trips (ipad)

  • boredgirl

personally, i kinda like it. but i think only someone stickthin with freja beha-like attitude could pull it off. plus, it probably could only carry an iphone and a small set of keys, since with anything bigger/thicker it would just look bulky.

  • Tracey G

    very strange bag.. (ipad)

  • Chells

I wouldn’t even rock that if it was free. I think the designer took the word creativity overboard. (ipad)

  • nini

I wonder who can pull this off. What top could go with it so that it turns out to be a flattering outfit? Or maybe if the dress was designed differently… then it’ll be a cute and convenient trend? (ipad)

this is an ideal gift for the groomsmen of a scottish or a irish wedding, instead of a kilt. (ipad)
