I’m no great fan of paying high prices for non-leather bags, but after seeing the Yves Saint Laurent Large Shopping Tote, I’m unsure how long I’ll be able to continue my resistance to the concept.

When you’re a fan of designer handbags, it’s best to come up with some personal price boundaries to avoid getting carried away. It’s easy to become desensitized when the most highly sought-after bag in the world costs in the high four figures, but not every bag is worth what the manufacturer might want us to pay. The Yves Saint Laurent Large Shopping Tote has positioned itself in an interesting spot, however – the price just might be low enough to pique my interest for such an attractive bag, even though it’s not made entirely of leather.

This bag has three very strong things running in its favor: first, it’s generously sized. I don’t know anyone that would need a larger bag for work (although I’m sure that are people that would), and this could also easily hold a laptop and books for a super-fashionable college student. Second, that color. It’s wonderful. Amazing. Beautiful. Unique. I love it. It’s probably better suited for fall than summer, but it’s never too early to start getting your wardrobe together for next season, now is it?

What perhaps helps this bag the most, however, is the fact that, even at $700, it’s a relative steal for a brand like Yves Saint Laurent. When you consider this bag, with its very functional size and shape and beautiful color, within the brand’s normal pricing scheme, paying that much for a non-leather bag seems to be a little more reasonable. Remember how I said that you shouldn’t get sucked in by price desensitization? Well, yeah, I just talked myself right out of that whole theory. This bag is totally great. Buy through Saks for $695.

Agree with everything. It’s gorgeous…..ahh resist, resist!

  • BLynnT

It is gorgeous (I do love the green), but even $700 for a bag made of felt seems a bit much. The bag may be roomy, but “felt” doesn’t exactly give off the feeling of durability, especially if you do use it to carry a laptop or whatever other heavy-ish things you might want to carry in it. Looks beautiful for sure, but I think I’ll save my money for a larger bag that seems a bit stronger and more durable.

I think it’s a great bag the material and everything are fine since they expect us to put heavy things in the bag if the bag itself made of leather it will be heavier like I used to own Piccadilly it’s sooooooo unbelievably heavy even if there is nothing in it i had to sell it for my health T^T love it though. BUT!! would I buy the bag then NO cuz for 700 it’s not a lot of money for fashion lovers like us if we really love the bag, but There are many other bags that I can buy to maximize my $$. That could be LV or Balenciaga (add lil more $$).

  • Roberta

    Felt??? Cmon’ now.
How can you use this bag in wet weather?
This bag should have been made with leather…..same color, and charge more of course, the style/capacity is worth it.

  • Mika

love the color.. love everything about it. great price.

  • Samantha

Like the bag says.. Y? lol Do love the color though.

I think a durable canvas in that shade of green would be a better selling point. Or leather. I can’t get past the felt.

  • dguerrero3

I like it and you make really great selling points…but for the price I’d probably add a little more to it and get an LV, Balenciaga, Prada or Gucci…

  • faith24

not sure I could ever find a non-leather bag in this price range that I would be willing to buy. I already have difficulty understanding why LV canvas bags sell at similar price points.

  • Stacy

FELT??? felt that’s used in arts and crafts…THAT FELT???? Ummm, yeeeaahhh, I don’t think so. Not at this price point – and not even with YSL’s name attached to it. I can find other totes, at least made of canvas, for a better price.

  • gogogo

    LV= overpriced nonleather

  • Sofia Nolan

Ooooh when I read large, it`s like the article is calling my name. iLoooove large bags and this one is gorgeous. YSL – hm..I`ll keep that in mind :)

    Ugh, i love it. Of course it’s $700. ;-)

I love felt! The style/design of this bag is great for tote lovers like me. I def prefer this to other overpriced canvas bag! But I’m not feeling the color. Hope this will soon launch in more colors!

BTW I’m sure this is a much better, thicker quality felt compared to the ones we find in the crafts store. Is it 100% wool? There is also a lot of high quality rugs and home furnishings that are made of really good felt nowadays.

Need to go to the store and have a look.

  • Merve

Felt? correction Green Felt? no thanks. Change the material and colour and u have a winner although its quite large and might be difficult to lug around

  • Jocelyn

If it was leather and if the straps were longer I’d like it. The color is great though. (fb)

  • hannah

I love it and YSL handbags in general. I’ll have to keep an eye out for it at Cabazon, CA when it hits the outlet as they have great deals.
