Christian Louboutin’s various adventures in handbag design have been…well, adventures. While the designer is virtually a sure thing when it comes to footwear of almost any type, his bags tend to range from beautiful to head-scratchingly odd, often in the span of a single season. Certain types of whimsy and irreverence just play themselves out more proficiently on the structured backdrop of a shoe; a high-end bag requires a slightly different sensibility.

The Christian Louboutin Sweet Charity Bag was immediately one of my favorites from the brand when the design made its debut over a year ago, and this latest version is almost as good as the original. I may be over the stud trend, but when combined with a ladylike bag like this one, I think they provide some welcome ideological contrast. (more…)

I always hated back-to-school time. It’s not that I particularly liked summer or disliked learning, but I just resented the loss of freedom that going back to class represented. The only part about the whole process in which I found any redeeming value was back-to-school shopping. Naturally.

And every year, my favorite part of the whole process was picking my school bag. Two weeks ago a commenter asked for a roundup of book-worthy options, and since it’s getting to be that time of year again across the United States, we’d like to take the opportunity to do just that. From totes to backpacks to messenger bags, we’ve got the best of the best at a reasonable price point. (more…)

Leopard print has obviously been around forever and the trend has been building for some time, but as far as handbags go, the look is about to reach critical mass. Since some people are apprehensive of the pattern and unsure of how it could fit into their wardrobes, we’ve taken the liberty of styling the Dolce & Gabbana Miss Charles Leopard Print Bag for both night and day to demonstrate leopard’s versatility.

This bag is particularly appropriate because of its petite size and mix of hardware – it can be paired with silver or gold and used night or day. Leopard provides an interesting opportunity to create visual interest through mixing textures because multiple attention-grabbing colors would compete with the pattern, and I particularly love how it looks with dark pinks and metallic touches. Details for each piece are after the jump. (more…)

I’m not much of a fan of denim. I have very little in my closet and I have very little patience for it in bag-form. Denim-look leather is a little bit better because at least it’s leather, but the look is not for me. From what I can tell, it’s not for most people that have commented on the various posts that have mentioned the trend.

I’m not going to rule out the possibility that it can be pulled off by someone out there, however, which is why I’m going to try to not say too many negative things about the Kooba Lana Denim Tote. My initial reaction was thoroughly negative, but I think that there might be something interesting here for someone with a thoroughly bohemian personal style. (more…)

I know that it might be the new thing right now, but I can just not get behind the whole “denim” trend. Whether it’s actual denim or leather treated to resemble it, I still sneer a bit, involuntarily, whenever I see or hear it mentioned. I don’t wear much denim, and blue isn’t exactly my go-to color (that would be black).

However, if I had to pick one of spring’s denim bags as my favorite so far, it would be the Olivia Harris Pillow Washed Lambskin Hobo. I’m hinging my choice heavily on the usage of the word “lambskin” in the bag’s title and the lovely shade of blue that the folks at Olivia Harris chose. (more…)

I’ve had my eye on this clutch all day. Ever since I fell in love with the Botkier James Leather Hobo I’ve been on the look out for other bags with a similar color scheme. So, I’ve found the color I like and in a smaller version. Now, I can’t decide which one I like more. There is something oh so cute and clutch-worthy about this bag that I really think I might have to snag it for myself. (more…)

So, you might be looking at this bag and thinking to yourself, “um, Shannon, you guys already talked about this bag”. Yes, this is true, Amanda covered the Botkier James Hobo a couple weeks back. But see, the thing is, this color jumped out at me so much that I had to write about it again.

Amanda mentioned how she was completely loving this new bag and all of its features. I agreed with her then and I agree with her now. While you may or may not agree with me, I actually believe this washed denim look is as fabulous if not MORE fabulous than the black option Amanda covered earlier. (more…)

Can we talk for a moment about this whole denim thing? And I mean not talk about it like fashion people, but like people that like to buy pretty handbags, because ultimately, that’s what almost all of us are. Even if we are fashion people in our spare time. Let’s dispense with what might be “on-trend” and talk about what actually looks good. Hint: IT’S NOT DENIM.

In the interest of full disclosure, I probably haven’t worn jeans in about a year. I just don’t like them. I know a lot of people do, and they look great on a lot of women. They do not look great on me, however, and they do not look great on handbags. I’m ok with denim-colored leather, but bags like the Miu Miu Large Denim Tote are simply beyond the pale. (more…)

There is an interesting concept going on here. I am going to start off by saying that I am a jean kind of girl. I love every single pair of jeans I own and I am always looking for more. Think about it, there are so many different styles of jeans out there that you can look fancy or relaxed in the same pair of jeans just by switching up your top, shoes, or handbag. With all of this being said, am I a jean handbag kind of girl… not so sure.

Emilio Pucci Denim Shoulder Bag

The Emilio Pucci Denim Shoulder Bag is just that, a denim shoulder bag. I am happy to see Emilio Pucci venture away from the traditional swoosh of colors on handbags, but I am wondering if this was the right way to go. I do love the chain shoulder strap, it is not only unique but also something that will sure to be a conversation starter. Lambskin leather lining keeps with the sort of rugged theme this relaxed denim handbag demonstrates. While there are individual aspects of the bag that I like, as a whole, I don’t think this one is for me. But do share, do you think denim bags are a hit or a miss. Pre-order through Saks for $1295.
