Milly Paige Mini Shoulder Bag, $265 via Net-a-Porter

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Milly’s handbags have genuinely surprised me in the best way possible. The contemporary bag market has quickly become crowded with too many designers doing too few interesting things, and even in that environment, Milly has distinguished itself as a line that’s got very distinct design ideas and knows what to do with them.

Perhaps the second most important thing to know about Milly is that you won’t probably miss rent if you buy a bag like the Milly Paige Mini Shoulder. Most of the line’s similarly-priced competitors would be charging more (some of them, a lot more) for a comparable design.

Even though this bag isn’t huge, the amount of thought put into the design is easily enough that it looks like a bag that would retail somewhere between $295-$395. Crimson suede with aubergine leather trim? Gleaming gold hardware? A red suede lining for the bag’s top flap? The bag ticks a lot of the important fall trend boxes without looking super trendy, and the price makes it an absolute no-brainer. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $265.

I saw this yesterday at Nordstrom, and it really caught my eye. It fits in my barely-there graduate student budget too, which is a rarity. Putting it on my short list!

i saw it on the nordstrom’s website in an all black as well as one in a brown combo too… but the burgundy is my fav!

Amanda. any idea what happened to feature my bag this week?

    • I’m not involved with that at all, but it’s coming. We’ve had appointments all week and are a bit backed up.

p.s. when is purseblog going to get on google+? LMK if you want an invite.

      • I’m already on it! I tend to be an early adopter when it comes to tech. But Google hasn’t created a way for brands to create pages yet, just individuals. They seem to be holding off a bit and will probably roll those features out over time.

I’m not usually a fan of bag from contemporary designers, but I do like this Milly bag. Clean lines, nice details and a great price point = winner!
