There was Riccardo Tisci at Burberry, Hedi Slimane at Celine, Daniel Lee at Bottega Veneta, and most recently, Matthew Williams at Givenchy. The list goes on when it comes to upheavals at big luxury brands the last few years, and with so many changes and beloved designers moving from one brand to another, switches in brand loyalty are almost inevitable.

While a brand must take this into account when appointing a new creative director, weighing the risk of losing existing customers with the notion of reaching a new audience, the newness of adding change while maintaining a brand’s current integrity is a fine balance to strike. Along with a new designer at the helm of a house often comes a revamped aesthetic and direction for a luxury brand—and big changes can make or break a brand, completely changing the trajectory and popularity of it altogether. And, at a time when there are more options in the handbag market than ever, if a designer is no longer serving a consumers wants and needs, it’s likely that another brand will.

Undeniably one of the biggest changes of the last couple of years happens to be the Bottega Veneta takeover by none other than Daniel Lee. A young designer who worked under the famed Phoebe Philo (RIP old Celine), Lee has single handedly skyrocketed the brand back to top, becoming a household fashion name overnight. Like it or not, his success at the brand is impossible to ignore and he has done an incredible job of seamlessly integrating change while keeping the brand’s storied history alive. The brand has become my favorite to watch and Lee’s designs are at the top of my fall wishlist, cementing Bottega Veneta as my favorite brand for fall (and likely beyond!).
