Without question, the New York Fashion Week show I look forward to the most is Proenza Schouler’s. The brand’s collections always feel fresh and directional, and even though they only show a couple of bags on the runway per season, those pieces are usually a good indication of what’s to come from Proenza’s full accessories line, as far as prints, textures and colors go. We’ll have a more comprehensive look at the bags from Proenza Schouler Spring 2013 soon, but for now, we’d like to talk about the Proenza Schouler Record Shoulder Bag.

For the past few season, Proenza has offered a couple of its handbags for pre-order through its website immediately after its runway show. Some seasons its been a printed, seasonal PS1, some seasons it’s a runway bag. For Spring 2013, it’s the Record Bag above, in either glossy black leather for $1575 or multicolor triangle check leather for $1725. The multicolor version is particularly reflective of the patchworked, mixed-media ready-to-wear collection that Proenza sent down the runway, and it’d be a good way to add a bit of that look to your wardrobe without splurging on a dress or jacket that’s likely to cost many thousands of dollars more. The thing I really love about these bags is the heavy, industrial metal bit at the closure – it looks like it might have been part of an engine, had it happened into a less glamourous life. You can pre-order these bags and watch the runway show at ProenzaSchouler.com.
