Wanna Know What’s Trending Right Now? Lyst Has Got You Covered

The Lyst Index for Q1 of 2021 is here (spoiler alert: sweatpants are on their way out)

With a quick unlocking of your smartphone and one long scroll through your social media feeds, it’s easy to develop a pretty good understanding of what the hottest products are right now. Or at the very least, you’d get an idea of what products influencers and in turn the marketing departments of our favorite brands are trying to sell us. But to really get a handle on what the most popular brands and products are at a given time, we look to the Lyst Index, which is a quarterly report of what’s hot in fashion. Every 3 months, Lyst analyzes a slew of different data metrics to help make sense of the current market. The data complied comes from sales, Google searches, and other important markers such as brand and product social media call outs plus engagement stats worldwide. All of this is compiled into a neat little package, giving us a quick overview and what’s currently trending. Lyst’s latest report was just dropped, which looks at the first 3 months of 2021 and it turns out that Gucci is once again the hottest brand right now.

Gucci taking the top spot shouldn’t come as much of a shock to most of you here, as the brand released some pretty buzz-worthy collections since the year kicked off. Gucci’s collaboration with North Face dropped on Gucci.com in late January, no doubt driving sales and brand awareness for the Italian fashion House. In fact, Lyst also reported that Gucci’s North Face GG Supreme logo bomber was the hottest product of the entire first quarter of the year. Unsurprisingly, the jacket is sold out on Gucci.com, but if you’re lucky you can snag one on the resale market for a premium. Dior, Balenciaga, Prada, Louis Vuitton and Bottega Veneta all snagged spots in the top 10 brands as well.

Both Bottega Veneta and Prada reported sales increases despite the COVID-19 pandemic, and while the overall outlook for the future isn’t certain, there is a lot of momentum in the luxury sphere. Lyst reports that e-commerce continues to be a bright spot within the industry as we hit the one year mark since many stores were forced to close their doors around the world. While brands will inevitably face hardships in the future, consumer optimism is palpable as the vaccine rollout continues and signs of a demand for products that reach beyond the scope of loungewear surge and there is a lot of talk of “revenge shopping” beginning as well.

In terms of bags, consumers this quarter were hot for the Prada Re-Edition 2005 as well as pre-owned Hermès bags. Demand for pre-loved H bags increased by 430% this quarter, with the Kelly being one of the most sought after bags. Considered an investment as well as a classic statement piece, the Kelly bag is currently the 2nd hottest women’s product.
