I have some friends who are monogram people, the type that have monograms on their sheets and towels and, if they have kids, it is on all of their kids’ stuff. I’m actually not a big monogram person and only own a few bags that have my initials, but the ones that do, I absolutely love. I was really excited to hear that Mansur Gavriel started offering a monogramming service because I love the idea pairing of a hand-painted monogram on one of the brand’s very simple designs.
I reached out to the brand to learn more, and they were kind enough to not only tell me all about the service, but also send me a monogramed bag of my own to have. All monogrammed artwork is hand-painted in a multi-step process on select vegetable-tanned and calf leather bags and small leather goods. As each bag is painted by hand, the finished product can take a few weeks to complete. As for options for your bag, they include five text size options (XS, S, M, L, XL), 16 color options (14 colors, 2 metallics), and two font types (MG Sans Serif and MG Script, both available without a shadow). You also have the option of 3 hand-painted monogram motifs at the new Mansur Gavriel Melrose Place location, which include a peony, an orange, and a protea.
The bag Mansur Gavriel sent me is their Circle Crossbody Bag in grey blue which truly is the ideal hue of grey and blue out there. My initials were painted with a deep rose pink color with a tonal shadow, and the combination is both bold and feminine. When I opened the box Vlad told me how beautiful he thought the bag was and he typically doesn’t comment on bags so outwardly. The pairing of the hand painting on the specific color of the leather is absolute perfection.
