One of the things I love most about being out in different cities and talking to people about their bags is getting to have a connection with someone new. A few months ago in Miami, I ran into the fabulously stylish Arianna, who was visiting from Canada with her equally as fashionable mother. Standing behind them in line at Chanel Design District, I started chatting with Arianna. I also wound up filming and sharing her bag, outfit, and jewelry which I absolutely fangirled over. I still follow her on social and love the colorful outfits she puts together, and this week, her sequin Loewe bag caught my eye.
I have seen just about every version of the Loewe Anagram Basket, or so I thought, until I saw this oversized sequin option and became obsessed. My brain failed me because I actually saw this bag as part of the Loewe Paula’s Ibiza Collection, but seeing it being carried by someone gave it new life.
Raffia Bag with a Twist
This is the summer of designer raffia bags, with every brand releasing something to fit this latest trend that has exploded. While this version does utilize raffia as well, it is the larger silver all-over sequins that bring this bag to life. The way this bag shimmers, shines, and shows movement is captivating, and the price is right for a piece that is usable while being equal parts novelty.
This handwoven body is covered in sequins and hand-embroidered, taking up to 21 hours. The iraca palm used for the base of the bag is cultivated, harvested, and sun-dried in Colombia before being woven by women artisans from Corporación Oficio y Arte, an organization founded on fair trade principles.
There are some leather touches, like the calfskin tie closure and handles, and you will also find the Loewe anagram on the front, which stands out nicely amongst the sequins. There are two color variations, either black sequins or silver. This is one of the bags that I didn’t know I wanted, don’t really need, but everything inside of me is saying BUY IT. And I just might.
