One of the biggest handbag trends in the last couple of years has undoubtedly been the east/west silhouette. It’s ruled the runways, it’s ruled our street-style rounds, and it’s shown absolutely no signs of slowing down!
One of the handbag world’s most iconic east/west bags, the Hermès JPG Birkin, saw a much-anticipated revival on the heels of the trend, quickly becoming one of the world’s most coveted Birkins of the 2020s.
It was first created by Jean-Paul Gaultier and debuted in Fall 2004 as part of his first collection for Hermès. It returned to the runway for Spring 2025, and its comeback has caught the attention of serious collectors and everyday bag lovers alike.
Shay Mitchell’s Paris Fashion Week Moment
Shay Mitchell is quickly making us pay attention to it, too, after wearing the coveted shape around Paris during fashion week.
After attending the Louis Vuitton show on Monday, the actress-turned-entrepreneur was spotted leaving her hotel in a casual chic look. She wore a simple knit top paired with an oversized distressed moto leather jacket and pointed-toe mules, which elevated the look.
Still, the star of the show is her highly coveted JPG Birkin. Shop all Birkin Bags via Fashionphile.

Who’s “everyone”? Delulu
Everyone? Really, everyone? I beg to disagree,
Looks awkward…straps are too short will easily fall of your shoulder even if you are petite size makes it hand held carry which defeats the purpose of being a shoulder version
i guess i prefer the old jpg version but maybe a size 30/35 instead of the 42
Looks like 1/2 the bag is missing…..
I had the early 2000s of the JPG Birkin. Sold it. Weighs a short tonne!! I don’t get how people think a bag that feels like you’re lugging around a tonne of bricks is comfortable to carry, especially on the shoulder.
