Hermès Goes East/West With the New Faubourg Express

Simply obsessed...

Hermes Faubourg Express Bag in Black

Last week, Hermès held its Fall/Winter 2024 Objects presentation, showcasing new bags and accessories beyond the brand’s runway offering. The presentation was a mix of refreshed versions of fan favorites and exciting new shapes.

One of those new shapes, dubbed the Faubourg Express, is the Hermès take on the increasingly popular East/West shoulder bag trend, and IMHO, it’s one of the best we’ve seen. The shape itself screams chic on its own, but with the Hermès touch, the Faubourg Express knocks it out of the park.

The Faubourg Express in Evergrain leather will also be offered in a mini size.

Introducing the Faubourg Express

With a sleek silhouette that focuses on length, the bag is simple overall, meant to showcase the House’s unparalleled leather craftsmanship, with unique stylistic details that speak to Hermès history.

Crafted from Evergrain calfskin, the shape features metal feet and a unique side clasp mechanism inspired by the Plume bag and the Quirus briefcase from the 1970s.

Launching later this year, the Faubourg Express also comes in a mini size, which functions best as a top handle, while the larger size is the perfect little shoulder bag. If you’re looking for a stylish bag with an attention to quality and craft that is unmatched, the Faubourg is it.

Overall dimensions are 16cm H x 21.5cm W x 7.5cm D for the mini and 22cm H x 29.5cm W x 9cm D.

Yes it’s well made. Yes, the leather is good quality. But if this bag didn’t say Hermès on it, no one would pay more than $200 for it. Hermès has become a true cult and its patrons are totally oblivious to the giant scam they are going through.

Pam

The main reason I love Hermes besides the quality & craftsmanship is IT DOESN’T SCREAM HERMES & has no logos. All ways understated and elegant. In addition to my quota bags, I have several non quota bags that are among my faves. Plain, perhaps, but beautiful in every way.

Benoit

There are a lot of bags at a fraction of the price that would fit the bill. You’re in a cult.

Laura

Why are you so judgemental?

Amy Battle

Maybe he/she is just realistic about what is clearly a scam. lol

I find it so funny that people need to slam Hermès and the people who love their bags and other things. No other major house hand makes bags like the Birkin and Kelly. Thanks for the piece Kaitlin!

Kindness is free, it costs nothing, and why make fun of people or demean them for what they like? Why would it even matter to you?
We all have things we love and there is no need to make fun of anyone for what they love.

It makes me think of something I saw recently There are three places you can go for free.
Mind ya business

Over there

The old saw of if you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all holds true. There’s enough nastiness in the world – why add to it?

This is a lovely bag, although I like other ones better I would certainly never make fun of anybody that loves this bag. Most of us who come here love bags, and we support those who do too. Everybody enjoy what they love! I certainly do 💐

Well said! Thank you✌️

Looks like a prada bag.

Vvi

It really does!

I see women, of all ages, carrying bags similar to this. It might surprise those who make ageist comments re: “Granny” bags that there isn’t a particular style that older women of distinction carry.

Dannd

Definitely a granny bag. Sorry, maybe its the leather that looks like its from the 40/50s? Or the color of gold? or the strap of the handle? I don’t know, I just know that this would look good on a granny..

I’d snap up an old vuitton Jasmine now instead of this. Its nice but…

THIS. +100.

It is a beautiful bag that looks very similar to the Amazona in volume and architecture. To my eyes, at least, it looks like the rigid version from the 1970s Loewe Amazona with longer arm strips. In that case, I maintain my love for the Loewe original Amazona and my love for Hermes original models.

Lori

I love a zip topped, double handle bag, but sadly not this one. I love the Plume and the Victoria, so maybe this one is just not a shape that I respond to. That said, it’s nice to see some new H bags…so bored with the usual bunch.

Thehoneybug

I love this east west style!

I love this bag so much. It screams elegant 50’s/60’s chic vintage….dare I say….Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis? If I were still in corporate, I’d at least pursue a similar aesthetic from a diff fashion house bc I know this is cost prohibitive. Does it lean matronly? Perhaps. But my goodness, old lady, vintage chic, plus class is a whole vibe that I’m here for. Not sure we judge other fashion houses so harshly when they release designs that may lean a little bit juvenile & trendy & en vogue but only for the moment.

I think it strongly resembles the Plume, with the benefit of going over the shoulder.

I think this bag is very similar in style to miu miu, Loewe, etc. almost all brands now have granny styled bag in their arsenal.
have nothing against it, but wouldn’t buy this bag. Especially at Hermes prices.Would stick to my holy trinity of BKC 🙂

Loop doop doop no dog goes poop on my loop

My mom had a bag like this in the 80s and wore it up until she died. It looks like a little caboose. It isn’t a bag, it’s a POCKETBOOK! Nostalgia for me

That is an interesting user name 😂
