Gucci Fall 2025 Is Both An Ode to Its Past and a Love Letter to Its Future

And the Horsebit 1955 celebrates 70 years

“A continuum of craft, taste, and culture that passes through time,” the show notes for Gucci’s Fall 2025 collection began. Furthermore, the press release explicates that a fashion house has many moving parts—one that spans well beyond whoever is at its helm. It is made up of artisans, craftspeople, designers, and more.

It’s that exact sentiment that feels oddly familiar, as it was just two years ago that Gucci was singing a similar tune. Like its Fall 2023 collection, this collection was designed by Gucci’s creative studio in the wake of Sabato De Sarno’s sudden departure earlier this month.

Once again, Gucci finds itself in a transitional period; a new creative director has yet to be announced, and it is clearly on the precipice of change. Still, the show must go on and go on it did yesterday in Milan, where a joint Womenswear and Menswear show was presented.

A Return to Its Roots

The work of many, the collection itself is a celebration of collaboration and expression. It is a celebration of the past, present, and future. It is meant to lay the foundation for what is to come from the brand in its next chapter.

Still, it is just as much an exploration of the past as we’ve come to expect from Gucci over the years. There are distinct nods to the past as the collection celebrates some of Gucci’s most iconic eras.

Mod moments nod to ’60s Gucci while the ’90s glam and sex appeal of Tom Ford Gucci are evident. Even a bit of De Sarno’s (short-lived) legacy appeared on the runway in the form of statement outerwear, acid green, and delicate slip dresses. Noticeably absent? Gucci Rosso Ancora.

The Bags of Gucci Fall 2025

The bags, too, utilize codes that are integral to the House, no matter who is at the helm, like the Horsebit, Bamboo, and storied interlocking GG motif, which is an ode to Guccio Gucci himself and celebrates its fiftieth anniversary this year.

The iconic Horsebit 1955 bag is also celebrating its anniversary this year. It appeared on the runway in various ways, from a classic but softer version of the iconic shape to smooshy oversized clutches. The half Horsebit motif, which we saw for Pre-Fall as well, makes its way onto flap bags in smooth leather and exotic iterations alike this season.

Not usually a fan of Gucci but I love how the horsebit is incorporated in the sleek hobo bag.
The fluffy hobo? So quirky and fun!

Pip

The hardware placement might dig into the wearers skin. Or rub on the collar bone.

So far it seems like they aren’t pivoting too much from De Sarno’s (which to me is a relief). Is it the studio’s design?

Croco (embossed?) bags with a D horsebit hardware looks cute! I hope the straps are long enough for crossbody. (It does remind me of Constance a bit, but I don’t mind that too much.)

Grace

Love this! Getting some serious Prada vibes though, in the styling, colours and materials (but that’s a good thing in my opinion)

Sandy

I am a Gucci fan for sure but nothing new of interest, maybe the flap with the new clasp? The Princetown is hopefully making a comeback, maybe never left, most comfortable shoes I have ever owned!

Raquelle

I disagree. I haven’t bee a Gucci fan in a while. But the last two collections have been surprisingly gorgeous. The level of tackiness Gucci has had is practically non-existent in their recent collections. These are collections true fashion lovers will wear and not just cast members of RHONJ or Dorit Kemsley.

Jimmee

This collection is a snooze fest. It’s like everyone at Gucci forgot the house codes.

This NOT the known and loved Gucci and the sales reflect it.

Monica

I can perfectly see this collection on stars of reality shows in fact that’s immediately who I assumed the target audience for this was. This was to appeal to the masses in my opinion not for the fashion lovers. I think something like FW 2020 was more for the fashion lovers this is just uninspired and was not worthy of a runway show.

Yes, love my mules!

Hermes Della Cavelleria vibes, anyone?

Wow I love this collection ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Reeked of desperation. Looks like they just took what was available in a hurry. And they were in a hurry.
Liked the flap bag with the horsebit detail.
The horsebit loafer has never really been out. Just bought a gorgeous patent pair in the Rosso Ancora color before Christmas and have my eyes on several other pairs.

Barbara

I love the half horsebit flap bag. Reminds me of the Celine Triomphe in shape. Look forward to seeing it IRL.
