Pantone names Emerald the 2013 Color of the Year

Every year, the color experts at Pantone get together and consult their crystal balls to tell us what’s going to be happening in the year ahead. The company’s track record on predicting elections and natural disasters is somewhat spotty, but when it comes to telling us which colors will be hot in the coming 12 months, Pantone’s usually right on the nose. Last year it was Tangerine Tango, which indeed dominated the warm months of 2012. For 2013, things are a little bit tamer – classic, regal Emerald is Pantone’s 2013 Color of the Year.

Emerald is more lively than Hunter and more muted than Kelly; it’s a perfect medium, as greens go, and it can function as a neutral in the same way that a deep blue does. It’s also a color that looks at home on a variety of skin tones and as a part of many different personal styles. If you’re someone who’s more comfortable with neutrals and hoping to give your wardrobe a little bit of a push, Emerald is both an effective and relatively safe way to do it. Below, we’ve searched out the best emerald handbags on the market right now, just in case you want to get a start on the trend. After all, 2013 is but a few weeks away.
