I’ll level with you here: New York Fashion Week might be fun, but on average, it hasn’t had a lot to dazzle accessory lovers in recent seasons. Notable high-end handbag purveyors like Proenza Schouler and Altuzarra have moved their shows to Paris, while the contemporary brands for which New York is known often have limited individual presences during the week. That’s especially true of the upstart indie brands that are making some of the most exciting accessibly priced bags on the American market; the cost of participating in a traditional Fashion Week is just too high.
That being said, Fall 2018’s handbag outing at NYFW felt more promising than last season’s, which at the time felt like a pretty significant low. The Row’s excellent handbag line is ever-growing, and on the contemporary end, Mansur Gavriel and Coach are representing the New York natives well.
