An Inside Look at the Making of the New Dior Lady 95.22 Bag

Maria Grazia Chiuri reimagines a House icon

Dior Lady 95.2210

The Lady Dior bag is one of the most timeless bags of modern handbag history. Its classic shape makes it an ageless icon, and it’s sneakily versatile, working well for nearly any age or style aesthetic. That versatility is no easy feat for a handbag, and it’s those reasons, among others, why it has remained a beloved bag for decades.

A truly unique combination of both House heritage and modernity, Maria Grazia Chiuri revisits the Lady Dior this season, reinventing this emblematic silhouette. Today, we’re rediscovering the iconic savoir-faire of the Lady Dior through the lens of Maria Grazia Chiuri with a look at the brand-new 95.22 bag.

An ode to Dior’s Past and Present

The newest addition to the Lady Dior family seamlessly melds Dior’s past and present, and its name perfectly represents that. 95.22 represents both the year of the original Lady Dior’s creation as well as the year that the new revival was conceptualized.

Defined by the House’s staple cannage pattern, the 95.22 once again does what few handbags are able to achieve; it is simultaneously both timeless and contemporary. Marrying Dior’s storied craftsmanship with cutting-edge innovation, cannage is magnified by Dior artisans using a meticulous technique of hand-cutting and applying heat and pressure, creating an eye-catching motif.

The bag’s architectural lines are the perfect canvas for the macrocannage motif, and it’s finished with hand-crafted handles and a leather shoulder strap, allowing for multiple ways of carry. Of course, the 95.22 is finished with the distinct classic D-I-O-R charms.

I LOVE this bag, but not the price. The small version is $6,500 and the larger $7,200. I can’t justify spending that much on this.

I liked this bag but not enough to part with $7k! I could get a bag l liked just as much for half that, even from another premium designer, and then have money left over to go to Paris or Milan for a few days to show it off 🙂

…or just stay home and put the money into something pleasing for the apartment.

Great marketing photos from our friends at LVMH. 😜

Haha exactly but it’s a cute bag

I think it is a nice looking bag. I bet the price point is OTT for an unproven bag. I promised myself I would never invest in a bag that may be gone in a couple years.

It looks a lot like the Dior Granville Polochon

Fabuleux

Looks like a beautiful bag—though very pricy.

Are Dior Lady bags really sewed by hand like that? Reminds me of the Louis Vuitton ads from 2010 that suggests their bags and wallets are done by hand too.

Nah, this is just advertising. There are few brands who hand sew their own bags, like Hermes, Moynat, DoClos, and others. Most luxury bags are machine stitched with some elements assembled/added manually. The latter is actually quite important, because popping on the hardware or what have you in France means you get to claim the otherwise machine-produced, made in China bag is made in France.

Does anyone know if this bag is 100% leather or a similar leather to the Essential Tote?

ive been lusting over this bag for ages now, I could never spent that amount of money on a Dior handbag, but they are emerging in the preloved resale for about 3.5. I think I did a rebag quote to see how much they buy them for and they gave me a price quote of 1.5 up to 2.5k buyout now. its insane how much they devalue and don’t hold their resale value. I rather keep lusting over it, and get it preloved and put in my archives of handbags than to buy new.
