Here’s unabashedly quirky British singer-songwriter Paloma Faith prancing about in the Soho section of London, wearing an MCM Heritage Medium Backpack. Everything about this outfit is giving me a crazy early 90’s flashback. Amanda recently discussed the bizarre appeal of these MCM backpacks at length in a post fittingly titled: “PurseBlog Asks: Ever Confused By Your Own Taste in Handbags?” If you totally get it, this backpack is currently available at Luisa Via Roma for $905.
I myself cannot get behind designer backpacks of any ilk. Even though I survived the 1990s, I refuse to concede that a backpack is an adequate purse substitute, and I also absolutely refuse to concede that a $1000 calfskin backpack can be half as hardy and functional as a backpack I’d spend $100-$200 on, so I see them as a fairly frivolous vanity item. (And yes, I say that as someone who writes about $10K handbags on the regular.) If you have evidence to the contrary, I’d be very interested to hear about it, PB readers!
