The House of Gucci has gone through many iterations of change while, at the core, keeping iconic pieces of its heritage visible throughout its collections. Alessandro Michele will surely be remembered for his transformative time at the House, which was defined by unique pieces and an exploration of Gucci’s heritage.
The Gucci Horsebit, an iconic House motif rooted in rich history, was one of the motifs most integral to Michele’s later years at the brand’s helm. A renewed emphasis was placed on the Horsebit, and that iconography will continue no matter who leads the brand, with the Horsebit remaining a cornerstone symbol for Gucci.
This fall, as the Horsebit celebrates its 70th anniversary, an iconic bag from the archives returns, and we are obsessed.
A Star is Born
This bag is a true standout. It’s both an ode to the brand’s archives and a celebration of an important House code. Dating back to Tom Ford’s Fall 2003 collection, the Horsebit Chain Shoulder Bag has quickly become a favorite of handbag collectors, Gucci lovers, and celebs alike.
Two of our favorite style stars were spotted wearing the bag this week, offering a stylistic lesson in perfecting fall/winter dressing. Let’s take a look.
Exhibit A: Dua Lipa
Singer/songwriter and fashion star Dua Lipa paired the bag of the season with the color of the season: red. Lipa’s red leather pants nearly stole the show, but pairing them with the silver version of Gucci’s Horsebit Chain Shoulder Bag is the cherry on top. In a very Y2K-esque mood, a crystal-embellished sweater finishes off the look, modernized by a taupe, tailored wool coat.
Exhibit B: Dakota Johnson
On the other hand, Dakota Johnson opted for all neutrals, offering a quieter option to a standout bag. Pairing a more masculine-shaped blazer with a white button-up and tight leather pants is the perfect juxtaposition. Johnson opted to carry the black version of the Gucci Horsebit 1955 Shoulder Bag with the bag’s leather strap, pairing well with her overall look.
Dakota Johnson – love her whole look. The bag is cute too.
I wanted to be excited about this bag. However, I was disappointed after seeing it in stores. To me, it looks dated not fresh and modern. It gives a thrift store vibe and not in a good way.
Apparently, these two ladies don’t agree with you.
It’s a nice bag, I will check it out IRL and see….
