First Look: Matthieu Blazy’s Debut Collection for Bottega Veneta

Presented in brand new campaign imagery...

Bottega Veneta Fall Winter 2022 Campaign

Back in February, Matthieu Blazy’s much-anticipated debut collection for Bottega Veneta debuted on the runway. The buzzy collection was followed by well-deserved praise for Blazy’s debut, which marks a new chapter in this new era of Bottega Veneta. The collection explores what makes Bottega Veneta Bottega Veneta at the core, marking a fundamental return to the essence of BV’s brand DNA. It is meant to build upon the past in a modern way, and now the brand has released its fall 2022 ad campaign, which further cements Blazy’s direction for Bottega Veneta.

The Creative Vision of Matthieu Blazy

The internet became abuzz with chatter yesterday when Bottega Veneta’s fall/winter 2022 ad campaign dropped. It is, after all, more than just an ad campaign, it is an entire compilation—over 30 images—of Blazy’s vision for Bottega Veneta, and his inaugural designs are the star of the show. The campaign came to life under the watchful direction of Matthieu Blazy, tapping various creators—some established photographers, some new to the fashion space, to shoot the campaign over a period of weeks. It was this collaborative spirit that spoke to the essence of Bottega’s DNA.

“Bottega Veneta was created by a collective of artisans. This is the history, and this is how we approached the campaign: together, with many different ways of seeing” – Matthieu Blazy

The images feature a cross-generational cast, cementing the idea that this Bottega is for one and all. The collection feels contemporary, yet Bottega Veneta’s most-iconic House codes are omnipresent. The House’s Intrecciato weave remains a focal point, and rightfully so. After all, Bottega is, first and foremost, a leather goods company.

The Bags of Fall/Winter 2022

Many of the pieces shown in the campaign have been launched online and in-store, though some are available for pre-order only. These include the Sardine bag, which was one of the standout runway bags, the Tosca, and the Pad Cross-body bag. We’re also given a further look at the fall collection beyond just the runway pieces (plenty of new Jodie Bags, Cassettes, and more). YSL Mombasa flashbacks anyone?

Baggladdy

That’s all I see

TaJuana

Exactly!

Unlimited Minutes

YES! And it looks like they’re going back to Maier-esque designs. Which…not mad at all.

Aspen

Hell. No. They’re destroying the elegance and its ability to be understated but luxe. Every house is turning into street wear and too relaxed looking and I’m over it. If I wanna look that way, I’m not gonna spend thousands to look extremely casual.

This!
I dont think Bottega needed my money anyway. So I went to Brunello and Loro Piana for my understated outfit after Bottega turned into a shit show.

PeggySue

Photographing a black bag against black clothes makes it impossible to see it.

pinksky777

That’s the point. They don’t want you to notice the “bag” is as big as a couch cushion lol

PeggySue

That isn’t a bad thing. I appreciate a bag with versatility. 😉

rufiny

I love the playful look of the black pillow bag and the fishbone handle bag

Sandra

I love everything about this collection. It reminds me of the best years under Maier’s leadership.
