Five of the Best Alternatives to the (Discontinued?) Row Margaux Bag

Goodbye Margaux hello Marlo?

Five Best Alternative to the Discontinued Row Margaux

Just as quickly as fashion insiders branded her the next Birkin, they will have to say goodbye (allegedly) to the It-bag of the moment, The Row Margaux.

Rumors began swirling earlier this month that quiet luxury’s favorite bag was no longer in production and would soon be completely phased out. While nothing has been confirmed, low stock and social media lore continue to fuel the flames.

While The Margaux bag has been around for quite some time, it wasn’t until the quiet luxury obsession of the early 2020s that it became fashion’s most-wanted bag. Its popularity reached a peak in 2024, spawning a revolution of sorts with contemporary and designer brands alike releasing their own sleek, specious top-handle carryalls.

What works about The Margaux is its roomy interior and ease of wear. The bag’s shape is relatively simple, making it incredibly easy to style. It can easily be worked into nearly every wardrobe.

While the jury’s still out, if we’re really going to say goodbye to The Margaux bag, it is a strong possibility. Its current ubiquity strongly clashes with The Row’s quiet aesthetic, leaving many unsurprised about the rumors of its demise.

The good news? For those who have yet to get their hands on a Margaux of their own, or simply those who want something different (or more affordable), there are a variety of great bags to pick from.

Here are five of our current favorites:

The Row Marlo

Another indicator that The Margaux is on the outs? The Row just introduced a quiet new carryall that checks all the same boxes as its older sister but still feels different. The Row Marlo features a soft yet semi-structured construction and long shoulder straps. Its large interior is spacious and roomy, and like The Margaux, it features an open top.

Reformation Oversized Patrizia Bag

Sustainable fashion brand Reformation launched handbags in 2023, filling a major gap in the market. Its offerings are on trend without being too trendy, affordable, and eco-friendly—a truly incredible feat.

Launching with just a few silhouettes, its newest product category saw nearly instant success and eventually expanded upon its offerings. With that expansion came the Oversized Patrizia bag, which offers the same clean and undeniably chic vibe of The Margaux with a sustainable spin. It also happens to be about 1/10th of the price.

Jacquemus Le Turismo

Debuting for the Spring 2025 season, Jacquemus introduced its Le Turismo bag on the runway earlier this year. Le Turismo offers a quintessential bowling bag shape with small details that provide fun stylistic details like an elongated handle with a knotted finish and leather side tabs. Unlike The Margaux, this bag has a longer shoulder strap for added functionality.

Manu Atelier Le Cambon 35

Manu Atelier’s Le Cambon has been ruling the NYC streets, and unlike The Margaux, it’s here to stay. The brand just teased a new East/West version of its icon, which feels incredibly of the moment. The bag offers the same luxe (and extremely chic) appeal as its luxury counterparts at a much more accessible price.

A bit of a difference is that Manu Atelier’s daily hauler also taps into the belted bag trend, offering the effortlessly cool appeal many of us crave from our daily haul-all.

Prada Medium Leather Tote

Last, if you want to go the ultra-luxe route, look no further than Prada’s Medium leather tote. Offering the same clean lines as The Margaux, minimal hardware, and a small, gold-embossed logo rather than the traditional enamel Prada logo, this tote feels the most similar to The Margaux.

The Margeaux (I happened to snag one) is being replaced by a more expensive version.

I have the Manu Atelier in black grain leather. It’s a beautiful bag! Highly recommend, the interior is a bit lacking, but structurally, leather quality, and space makes up for it.

I saw the Manu Atelier above and it looks great. The price point is pretty good too. Good to hear it recommended and the leather quality is there. Thanks

The Margeaux is one of my favourites, I own it in a 17 but have been looking for a 15 to purchase, so I better get on it. Awesome travel bag ,if I don’t happen to find one,The Row has other options.and so does Prada,it’s a shame that companies can’t enjoy the success of a great bag.

I also love the look of the Hudson from DeMellier, feels less directly inspired by the Row vs some of the other competitors
