I recently spent a few weekday evenings (before the light ran out) puttering around SoHo, hoping to catch some lovely ladies headed out. Whether that was out to dinner, shopping with their girlfriends, or catching a show, I hoped to find a respite from the daytime heat and corresponding attire.
To my absolute pleasure, I had the opportunity to catch up with one of the first women I met when beginning my New York City journey into fashion, Eden Lipman. In her crisp whites and carrying her Birkin 35 in Izmir blue, Eden divulged that her new book, WTF Do Men Want?, a follow-up to her recently released, Ambitchious, was the product of subjecting herself to quite literally hundreds of dates.
And though date-night attire may not be the focus of Eden’s new book, I can’t help but wonder how she went about choosing dozens upon dozens of date-night looks when I struggle to land on one once or twice a month.
The Ladies Headed Out
After catching up on all things Eden, I was enchanted to become acquainted with several women enjoying their post-workday strolls through the shopping and restaurant hub of SoHo. Ayodimeji, Sandy, and Baraka, seen below as a trio carrying Staud, Jacquemus, and a little golden mystery, had been shopping and were about to make their way to a Broadway show. Orane Abezis, design director of B&B Italia, seen below in a black and white striped shift dress and stunning vintage black boots, was out walking her sweet little dog, which she calls “the coolest accessory.”
In her black spaghetti-strap dress, LV Cannes, and Isabel Marant boots, Steph was headed to meet a friend for dinner. She and I became fast friends.
Lively groups, dynamic duos, and single-shoppers in summer dresses, carrying their boldest summer bags, made for a very special evening edition of BITW. Is dinnertime my new favorite time to shoot?

For the life of me I just don’t understand the Birkin. Lumpy, sloppy, usually carried all opened up because it is too difficult to get into. I’m baffled.
Totally impractical with no strap.
Its 100% a status bag. Not tasteful, practical, or even attractive.
Yes and the more beat up it looks, as well as carrying it fully, open signifies the carrier has enough money to easily replace it and the contents at a whim. I imagine most don’t actually.
Wow, this is fascinating. All the reasons y’all cited are the reasons I love my Birkin! If I have a hands-free crossbody or shoulder strap I’ll forget my purse is even there, which leaves it vulnerable in cities. My Birkin HAC is one of the most practical bags ever. I holds so much, and I love to travel with it for that reason. The catch is that it’s practical for *me* and no one else. It’s obviously a status bag, but also not really a status bag? None of my immediate friends care about luxury brands. Most don’t even know what it is. I got it because I love it and will be buried with it.
I love the happiness in these pictures!
The color of that Birkin, with the white outfit, is gorgeous!
I really like the color of that Birkin.
‘Also, I am loving all of the dresses. Now, I want some casual dresses!
Enjoyed reading. Fun article
Why do so many people slide their bags to their back? I did, years ago, but was robbed in New York, lesson learned.
If someone wants to rob you, they’re going to rob you. That’s why I think it’s silly when ladies clutch their bags. I’m not fighting over a leather sack, I will gladly hand it over in any case.
However, they did research many years ago and discovered ladies wearing larger bags are less likely to be attacked.
My jumbos are tanks and blunt force objects, if needed.
Great Tip!
The pink bag in the last picture is the Furla Sirena bag.
the Half and Half jeans, looks cute
Absolutely love the little white clutch on the woman with the friend carrying the Fendi mini bucket bag and the vintage looking gold butterfly bag. Super cute style!
That looks like the Row North Park Tote on the woman in the cute mini denim dress.
She’s having major wardrobe malfunction…very tacky . Put that back in its nyc
