A quick glance at either the Jil Sander Market Bag or the Maison Martin Margiela Oversized Leather Shopper will let you know that the structure of these bags isn’t some sort of new fashion invention. In fact, they closely resemble the shape and structure of a Target shopping bag, except rendered in luxurious leather instead of thin plastic. Sander’s also includes a leather strap that runs between the handles and allows the bag to be carried like a regular hobo, which Margiela’s doesn’t seem to offer. On the other hand, the Margiela bag wins the size competition, and does so for a lower price. I’m guessing that this bag battle is going to come down to color, though – hot pink and cloudy grey will likely appeal to two very separate groups of shoppers. Me? I’d wear them both, so we need your help to decide this edition of Bag Battles…

I love the grey of the Margiela, but the straps make it too hard to carry. Carrying it on your shoulder will be awkward, because you’d actually be carrying it sideways, and you can’t wear it on the crook of your arm either because of the same problem. It seems a little too big to wear on the crook of the arm anyway. I hate it when they haven’t thought out the little things like this clearly.

    • That bothers me about the Margiela bag as well. The hobo option on the Sander bag is such a well-thought detail.

Even the quality of the leather of Jil Sander Market Bag looks better than the MMM one in the comparison pic. I am attracted to the Market bag like a moth to a fuchsia flame, someone hold me back…

The Jil Sander Market Bag looks far more comfortable to be worn on the shoulder. The color is delicious!

This reminds me a lot of the Belen Echandia Hold Me…

The pink one is marginally the best, IMO, although they’re both really nice, in a pleasantly simple sort of way.

I have the Jil Sander is bright bright green and love it. So cheery and perfect for spring.

I like the Maison Martin Margiela better.

I like the Jil Sander bag because of the straps. It looks like it would be easier to use. I love the pink color, although it’s not a color I’m accustomed to wearing.

I love slouchy bags, but the grocery sack style is going to far for me. I’d choose neither.

i love love LOVE the color of the Jil Sander, & maybe I’m a bit of a handbag nerd but the Margiela is such an iconic “Margiela” shape that to me the Jil Sander just looks like a very direct copy…. so I’d have to go with Margiela. (sorry fuschia… sorry…)

Love the color of the Sander, but the lack of structure of both bags makes my OCD flare up. I need a little stitching just to make me feel secure. Crazy I know :-)

The Sanders! Love the color and love the extra leather strap. I also like the slightly more hobo shape of it.
