Your first look at Celine’s Pre-Fall 2012 handbags

I hate Pre-Fall for the same reason that I hate Resort: It’s so hard to get good pictures of the bags, shoes and accessories when the lines debut. Because most designers have small shows or presentations for a very small group of buyers and editors and then simply release lookbook images to the fashion press at large, the detail shots that you get during the big, somewhat public Spring and Fall runway shows are basically nonexistant. Still, though, we do the best we can to sniff out as much information (and as many pictures for you guys) as we can find.

With that in mind, I’ve done some Internet sluething and come up with the best pictures available of Celine Pre-Fall 2011 Handbags. That includes shots from preview-attenders that were posted to Twitter and Facebook, as well as a look at the brand’s official images from the collection. If you spot any we’ve missed floating around on the Internet, let us know and we’ll add them to the gallery.

Louis Vuitton taps artist Yayoi Kusama for upcoming collaboration

Many brands have tried out the designer-artists collaboration, but only Louis Vuitton has it down to a science (and an extremely profitable one at that). Even casual fashion watchers know the names of the artists that Vuitton has brought on – Stephen Sprouse, anyone? Takashi Murakami, does that ring a bell? Vuitton announced earlier this week that it’s about to make another artist a household fashion name – Yayoi Kusama, an 82-year-old Japanese visual artist known for her love of dots.

Kusama is well known in the contemporary art world, but her name may be new to accessories lovers. Fret not, we’ve assembled a few samples of her work after the jump, and her bold, graphic aesthetic seems perfect for a Vuitton collaboration. Yayoi Kusama for Louis Vuitton will include ready-to-wear, handbags, accessories, shoes, watches and jewelry, and it will bow with special fancy-pants window displays in early July.

January Birthday Gift Guide: Garnet Handbags

Just because the holidays are over doesn’t mean gift-giving has ended. There are so many other opportunities for us to shop for ourselves and others, one major event being birthdays. For 2012, we will be making birthday gift guides to help you choose the bag you want to ask for or want to give.

Garnet, the birthstone for January, is a deep red stone that signifies eternal friendship. Many say the stone has a resemblance to a pomegranate seed. The hue of red is deep and alluring, also perfectly fitting for the bitterly cold and often snow-filled weather of January. If you want to give a January baby a great birthday gift, pick from one of these nine handbags that are sure to be a long-lasting handbag to add to her collection.

Mulberry’s Spring 2012 ads are beachy keen

Images via Mulberry

Spring ads are always my personal favorite, and the newly released Mulberry Spring 2012 campaign is a perfect illustration of why. If you don’t look at these photos and feel a fierce need for a floppy straw hat and a lobster roll (in addition to a new bag, of course), then you and I can’t be friends. What we have here is a bright, shining beacon of spring fashion hopefulness.

The ads, lensed by Tim Walker and featuring Frida Gustavsson and Lindsey Wixson on England’s Brighton Beach, are full of optimism and wonderment in the form of whimsically oversized ice cream cones and playful beachside shenanigans. Naturally, bags take a central role in all of the fun, with the seafoam and black snakeskin option standing out as the leader of the pack. The rest of the images can be found after the jump.

Lanvin goes shore chic with a shell purse

Lanvin Minaudiere Satin Shell Clutch, $1490 via Net-a-Porter

In general, a good rule of them is that two is a coincidence, three’s a trend. If that’s the case, then I’m ready to call shell bags a full-on fad; not only did Versace and Chanel both show shell purses during their respective Spring 2012 runway shows, but now Lanvin has dropped the Lanvin Minaudiere Satin Shell Clutch. That’s three, y’all. Can you hear the Trend Siren going off?

Mila Kunis makes her handbag debut for Christian Dior

Images via Dior

Fresh on the tail of her Black Swan costar and longtime Dior spokesperson Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis has been tapped to front the Christian Dior Spring 2012 ad campaign. Her first set of shots for the company features a group of products that is very relevant to our interests – handbags!

More specifically, these three shots include the Miss Dior handbag line in Mila’s lovely grasp, which has long been my favorite of Dior’s classic accessories collections. In particular, I adore the snakeskin version featured in one of the additional shots that we have after the jump. Do you like Mila as a model?

In which I put Versace on blast for the second time this week

Versace Baroque Print PVC Tote, $1125 via Net-a-Porter

At first, I had no issue with the Versace Baroque Print PVC Tote. The yellow-on-white pattern may not be my personal taste, but it’s the kind of strong, intricate visual for which Versace is known, so I can’t fault them for pursuing that aesthetic. What I CAN fault them for, though, is charging over a thousand dollars for a very basic tote that’s not even real leather.

Purseonals: Celine Triptyque

2011 was a year filled with Celine bags for me. I went from owning zero Celine bags to owning three Celine bags with one more on the way. While most know Celine for its Luggage Bag, my favorite Celine bag may be the under-the-radar Triptyque. Vlad and I spent the holidays in Germany and the … Read more

Want It Wednesday: More Chanel

Some of my favorite Chanel items from my collection. Follow purseblog on Instagram

Typically for Want It Wednesday, I pick one thing that I am coveting greatly. But this week, all I want is Chanel. Chanel everything, from head to toe. This is one of those weeks where I am on a major Chanel kick and if I had it my way, I would pop into their store and buy one of everything.

Ever wanted a neoprene, non-Hermes quasi-Birkin? Well…

Leghila Neoprene B-Bag Tote, $375 via Luisa Via Roma

Around here, we have plenty of fun pointing out those companies who seek to ride each others’ design coattails to financial and sartorial success. Almost every company, big or small, well known or not, fits that descriptor from time to time, but then there are those who take the whole enterprise up several degrees of magnitude. When that happens, we get bags like the Leghila Neoprene B-Bag Tote.
