Marc Jacobs Outsider Tote

Marc Jacobs Outsider ToteSometimes, if the material that a designer uses is face-smackingly beautiful, the design doesn’t have to be anything more than basic and functional. Do one thing really right, and it’s ok if the other elements of the design aren’t as attention-getting. That seems to be the guiding principle behind the Marc Jacobs Outsider Tote, which uses a stunning color and gorgeously glazed leather to make up for the fact the bag itself is fairly simple.

I don’t even like glazed leather, but for some reason, I can’t take my eyes off of it here. Purple is, unabashedly, my all-time favorite bag color and more versatile than you’d think when used as a neutral, and the folks at Marc Jacobs have used it to capture my imagination and lure me in. This is one of the first fall offerings to surface, and wouldn’t it look great with a charcoal grey wool coat and dark denim stuffed into vintage-looking leather boots? A bag with such a vibrant but winter-appropriate color is essential when the weather gets cold and clothing colors get dark, and although the color will remain warm for some time, it’s never too soon to start planning for fall. Buy through Nordstrom for $925.

Darn it! All this love for purple bags, and I thought I was on the road to some enlightened path with my love of deep purple slung over my shoulder… oh well. I still love it. And I’m a little saddened that my most recent purple bag (that I loved like crazy) broke and I had to get rid of it. It was like putting a dog to sleep…

Gorgeous! I’m totally on a purple phase right now too and this color is just TDF. Simplicity is too often overlooked and unappreciated, but I love the classic, structured lines of this bag and it’s clean rolled leather handles. I would totally wear this bag in summer too with some crisp white skinnies and wedges!

I love love love this tote! I totally agree with the fact that the color and leather are the perfect complement to the simple design. Also, the plum color is naturally a very warm color, but the glazed leather really jazzes it up and makes it seem much brighter. Purple is my favorite color for bags as well :) And the color makes it so versatile- you could wear it with summer whites or winter greys.

I actually love glazed leather, but only in neutrals like black, chocolate or nude…colors that can make the shiny leather look a bit richer. Sometimes it works, sometimes not, lol. As a rule, I love almost ALL MJ bags. He does very little wrong in my book. I may not pick up this bag for fall, as it’s not too interesting in my eyes, but I will likely pick up some purple MJ bag, as I agree…purple is the obsession right now. I am obsessed with grays, purples, greens and yellows.

This bag is oh so hot!
Purple is the only color than can give justice to the bag!
