The gods have heard my cries and celebs have suddenly changed their lifestyle handbag-carrying habits accordingly. The endless sea of Chanel and Hermès bags has suddenly (almost) run dry (can’t speak for next week, though), and celebs are finally choosing to dine somewhere other than the same two West Hollywood eateries!
Celebrities have their priorities, and dining at The Nice Guy seems to consistently rank very highly among them. This week, almost half of our featured celebs are pictured outside of The Nice Guy in LA, many of them before Cannes was even officially over.
Customization is a huge accessories trend no matter when it happens. An ever-increasing number of brands offer hot stamping or monogramming to help customers feel like they’re purchasing something special, and shoppers can add anything from furry monster charms to after-market pavé diamond-encrusted hardware to their bags once they’ve swiped their credit cards.
I’m a bit biased, but I think all of the celebs featured herein are influential, albeit some of them only in fashion. In a larger sense, only one has made a lasting cultural impact that propelled her onto this year’s Time 100 list, and only one has the clout to bring one of her favorite designers along to the gala as her escort.
Here’s something I don’t get to wax on about nearly enough for my liking: Netflix celebrities. If you’re a fellow cord-cutter, you’re probably aware that a well-received Netflix series can quietly boost the celebrity profile of actors and actresses that have had a harder time finding success on network television, who haven’t worked in a while (by choice or not) or who are way more popular across the pond.
While there is usually a bit of overlap between NYFW, LFW, MFW and PFW, this year event organizers were careful mostly not to step on anyone’s toes. (With the exception of Paris of course, because Paris.) New York, London, and Milan are happening in quick succession, with no more than a day of space between all three.
When I sat down to compile the photos for this post, I didn’t know that it was going to be about Chanel. As I started looking through our photo agency’s recent archives, though, it became clear that it had to be; no other brand exerts the kind of dominance among high-profile women’s handbag collections that Chanel does.
Supermodels, reality stars and Kardashians are usually a large component of our bi-weekly celeb bag roundups, but their bag choices, while always super high-end, can’t always be relied upon to be truly interesting. This week, however, celebs of all stripes brought their handbag A-games.
