PB: Where do you gather inspiration?
RM: I take notes as I travel. Sometimes I do not feel inspired but after my trip I look at the notes that I jotted down and find some great ideas that I jotted down.
PB: You do not have a boutique open yet. Is that coming anytime?
RM: We are hoping to do this in about a year with a simultaneous opening in New York and LA. In New York I want to do it in the West Village around Bleecker Street. In LA at the north end of Robertson Blvd would be a great place I think.
PB: What has been your biggest and/or unexpected challenge in growing your business?
RM: For me personally, it is finding the time to balance my time. Say it is Fashion Week and I have all these events to go to, but I also want to be in my office working. And when I am traveling selling the collection, the emails pile up and it gets so hectic. So for me it is time management, like how do I wear all of the different hats… Ya know?
PB: It is the same for us. Time management is always tricky! Where do you see your company going in the next 5 to 10 years?
RM: I would love to see my company expand and grow, similar to the direction Marc Jacobs has gone. He has Marc by Marc Jacobs, Marc Jacobs Collection, clothing, handbags, etc. I don’t want people to think of me as old, but growing.
PB: What is in your refrigerator?
RM: I really like smoothies in the morning. I have something called Greens and Reds, which is all the best stuff from fruits and veggies. I have that with yogurt and soy milk. I like Greek yogurt as a snack (not the fat free one, it is not as creamy!). Eggs, cheese, corn tortillas, fruit. My favorite fruit is papaya.
