Marc by Marc Jacobs finally takes a leap into the brights trend

To me, the combination of Marc by Marc Jacobs and the brights trend always seemed like a complete no-brainer. In fact, I expected to see an MbMJ collection chock full of neon a full year ago, when the look was just getting started. It’s the kind of thing that appeals so obviously to the Marc demographic that the marrying of the two was only a matter of time.

Surprisingly, though, it took a tad more time than I expected. MbMJ has dabbled in brights here and there in the past few seasons, but the Marc by Marc Jacobs Bob’s Memphis Trip Colorblock Top Handle and the Marc by Marc Jacobs Totally Turnlock Python-Embossed Messenger are the two biggest, boldest examples of colorblocking and neon that I’ve seen from the brand. It’s about time.

not surprising….marc has done both neon and color-blolcking in both mainline Mj and MBMJ for YEARS!!
he did fluo colors in his frog pochette bags, done out of kangaroo skin to get the neon colors….he dabbled in fluo tones for RE 2006. he did colorblock pochettes like the MIKA bag too, even mixing leather textures and skins. for MBMJ his fall 2008 line was an homage to punk, and yet again he not only did fluorencent pinks and greens, but colorblocking as well…way back in the earliest years of MJ, he was known for the vintage, retro inspired colorblock pieces. the only difference i see in these ‘new’ bags are certain shades of the neon, and less ‘in your face’ colorblocking & logo to compete with the more minimalistic trends we’re seeing the past few seasons…

I second J Um. They look a bit like knockoffs of PS and sadly, the leather that MbMJ always does so well is missing here
