A lot of girls steal T-shirts from their boyfriends. I knew a few in college who stole hats, but that may have been unique to my location – southerners love a ball cap. I’ve known a girl to steal a pair of boxers here and there, but that’s sort of gross. Personally, I aspire to date the kind of guy from whom I could steal bags, and today, that aspiration applies specifically to the MCM Munich Lion Weekender Bag.
I will never be the girl who dates the guy who owns this bag, mostly because my tastes generally run toward the gruff and lumberjack-y while this design is clearly meant to appeal to a dude with a decidedly European sensibility. In general, though, MCM finds a way to violate a lot of my usual predilections. For instance, I despise logo bags for my personal use, but I’d pick something with the MCM logo in a heartbeat. I still haven’t quite figured out why, and I’ve been contemplating that particular contradiction for quite some time now.
When it comes to this bag specifically, the interruption of the logo print by the off-center racing stripes is what does it for me. The contrast of the blue and orange trim probably shouldn’t work against the green background, which falls somewhere between lime and olive, but it does. I could do without the embossed lion on the black trim, but ultimately, that’s a rather small drawback for what would be a very distinctive carry-on option. Buy through Bloomingdale’s for $780.
