• lunatwinkle

Ever After! So romantic, the perfect fairy-tale!

• Kaytey

I’m actually an old woman in a young woman’s body, because my favourite romantic movie has got to be CASABLANCA.

Three reasons why it rocks the casbah:
First of all, the movie is riotously funny if you listen closely (“I like to think you killed a man – it’s the romantic in me.”).
Second, it’s realistic in its portrayal of love. You might love person A, but you love person B that little bit more. Or, perhaps, no matter how much you love person A, duty binds you to the other.
Third, one of the greatest lessons in life is that sometimes you have to let the things you love go.Loving isn’t about doing what makes you feel good, it about doing what’s best for the other person – regardless of whether they want it or not.

• shushopn

Totally loved when Harry Met Sally.

• Nishi621

“It’s A Wonderful Life”! While not technically a love story, it has one of my all time favorite love lines in it. Here is the main character, George Bailey talking to his girlfriend, soon to be wife, Mary:

“What is it you want, Mary? What do you want? You want the moon? Just say the word and I’ll throw a lasso around it and pull it down. Hey. That’s a pretty good idea. I’ll give you the moon, Mary.”

It makes me tingly just thinking about it!

• FashionAddicted

Hmm… there are so many good romantic movies to choose from! especially during this generation, a lot of movies, even action or horror, have a little bit of a love story in them. ghost, titanic, & cast away were good ones, but the one that touched me the most was “the notebook”.
it dated back to the 1930s – 1940s, a very moving and old love story. if you have not watched this yet, go rent it! im sure you will love it as much also. i think most movies that go back beyond our generation would be good because they all have an undescribable feeling to them. a sense of warmth and endearment. maybe modern day has changed love movies in a way. because all you see in some movies now adays are sex scenes affiliated with love. ah well, blame the media!

• Jenny

Baz Luhrman’s Romeo and Juliet. Can’t go wrong with Shakespeare, Leo and Claire (and a great soundtrack to boot). Le Sigh!

• Alyssa

Hands down, has to be Gone With the Wind!

• Lily

The Notebook… It actually made me cry!

• outpt

To Have and Have Not. Bogie and Bacall’s first movie just sizzles with romance.
“You know you don’t have to act with me, Steve. You don’t have to say anything, and you don’t have to do anything. Not a thing. Oh, maybe just whistle. You know how to whistle, don’t you, Steve? You just put your lips together and… blow.”

• Jennifer

My fav is Pride and Prejudice…you can’t go wrong with a classic Jane Austen story! The movie, the book, it’s all so breathtakingly lovely! I always cry in the end when Mr. Darcy and Lizzie are together and they realize that they’re in love with eachother!

But boo hoo for Valentine’s Day, as I am single. Today I’m wearing all black with vampy Chanel Maddness nailpolish…that black Prada pouch would go perfect with my outfit for today haha!

ATONEMENT!!!!!!!!!!!
wow, everyone has got to watch it…I actually bawled way more than the notebook actually :)
It was beautiful.

• LilyBird

“High Fidelity” with John Cusack.

What’s more romantic than a 30 something record store owner with a penchant for neuroses and mix tapes?

Defined modern day love in the simplest of terms…

“She didn’t make me miserable, or anxious, or ill at ease. You know, it sounds boring, but it wasn’t. It wasn’t spectacular either. It was just good. But really good. ”

:::sigh:::

• Maddy

I actually have two favorite love movies: Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I love how the main characters are full of flaws but find love and is loveable regardless of their flaws. Even thinking these movies make me smile. I love it!

My favorite has to the “The Sound of Music”…yeah, it’s an oldie, but so good! It’s so sweet how at the end the Captain runs away with Maria towards freedom across the mountains. • Addy

Pretty Woman :0P

• BalenciagaLove

My favorite romantic story comedy movie is French Kiss. Again, Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline. Who would have thought that Kevin Kline could portray a French scoundrel so convincingly. My French friends would ask “Who is this actor?? I have never heard of him!”

It’s a story of love lost, love gained, wine, cheese, the French Countryside, the city of Nice and a Cartier diamond necklace. It’s a movie that makes you fall in love with all these things and the characters themselves.

• Alyson

Mine would have to be A Walk To Remember with Mandy Moore and Shane West. It really shows how “the bad boy” in high school can change for a girl if he really loves her. It makes me cry everytime! The acting is really good and the plot situation would bring anyone to tears!

Belle Epoque with a young Penelope Cruz. There is this guy that is sleeping around with all of her sisters and she’s super jealous. There is this amazing scene where she lets all her anger out and is screaming at him and generally going crazy and he stops her and shouts back something like “stupid, don’t you see you’re the one I love?”. • charleston-mom

My favorite movie is “Life is Beautiful.” While it is partially about the holocaust, the main part of the movie celebates love at its finest: the love of a man for a women and his hilarious and unstinting courtship of her, the love of husband and wife to the point of the wife following him on a cattle train; the love of a mother and father for their son. A love that a father cares so much for his little boy that he tries to pretend to him that the holocaust is a farce, that if he survives he will “win a tank” and that same father, in a total paternal love for his son sacrifices his life for him. Finally, the love of a mother and son, reuniting on a road, with the bittersweet knowledge that she has lost the love of her life, but he lives on in the little boy. THAT’S MY FAVORITE! Finding love, joy, bittersweet life coming in the way, but a triumph of love and spirit in the end!

Breakfast at Tiffanys for elegance.

A Love Story that got me a lot was the movie:
Griffin & Phoenix

Its a story about living and facing the truth without mattering how much it hurts you, eventually one will find out THE GOOD way to pass it through.
And also this proves that with a glimpse of an eye life can change in a 360 degree way, so thats why it invites you to remember that one should enjoy every moment of life no matter how bad or good is it and that a person shouldnt be afraid of falling in love when their hearts tell them.

• Shannon Sutherland

Pride and prejudice

• Martha Kops

Firs thin that come to mind is Pride & Prejudice 1995 BBC edition with Colin Firth for me or
Jane Eyre with Orson Wells and each for the same reason… all the smoldering desire, longing and anticipation before true love wins in the end. There is a scene in Pride and Prejudice when Mr. Darcy is sitting on the couch at Pemberly watching his sister playing piano while Elizabeth turns the pages, and he is the picture of contentment. If the question had to do with a book, P&P would be my choice hands down for its story and all the others it has inspired including Bridget Jones. Since P&P was a mini series and that version of Jane Eyre is not known to many, The Fountainhead comes to mind… so hard to choose! Thanks for the question! It has me thinking now.

• lauren

my favorite movie of all time, which is more about fascination than love (but as someone who has seen enrapturement grow into love, i will most definitely call this a love movie with confidence) is lost in translation. the dynamic between bill murray and scarlett johansson is divine and i think the relationship their characters form with each other will be unforgettable for both. i feel like this is one of the most important parts of love- unforgetting in nature- and growing and learning from it.

• jnh14

It has to be “The Way We Were” it was a tear jerker!

• Trisha

LOL

• favoritethingshawaii

“The Graduate”

What Ben has to do at the end to keep Elaine from getting married at the church – and how he fights off everyone – and when they get on the bus with her in the wedding gown…

Of course, the Alfa Romeo spider in the movie adds flair!

• jadecee

My fave Hollywood love movie is Sabrina featuring Julia Ormond and Harrison Ford.

I’m a huge romantic and huge idealist. I love it when “things are meant to be”. This movie really shows that sometimes what you think you want – the popular guy, the goodlooking guy, the one everyone loves, may not be the best match for you and the best match for you is the one who truly gets you. And when you fall for someone, you just do – there’s that certain je ne sais quois. You just know that other person makes you feel complete and makes you want to always strive to be a better person.

Hmmm… it’s a tough one for me, but I think “Love Actually” is the best… I like how it shows different versions of what love is at different stages of a person’s life. Old, young, new, family, parents, friends… I love that love can mean so many things to so many different people.

We could ALL use more love in our lives… Love isn’t just about romance, it’s about dedication, respect, and friendship. Go spread some love!
