Apr 8, 2009 / Posted in Giveaways by Shannon Mahoney.

Linea Pelle Lola ToteKicking off Linea Pelle month last week was a blast. As much as we loved sharing the amazing Alyssa handbag that was up for grabs, we REALLY loved reading all of your comments. And like so many of you said, there really is a plethora of amazing Linea Pelle handbags to feast your eyes on. Well, we are just gearing up. This week, as promised, we have another gorgeous handbag you can win. The Linea Pelle Lola Tote is an fabulous tote I know so many of us would hold onto, dearly.

Linea Pelle Lola ToteAgain, no surprise here: the leather, soft; the stitching, seamless and the style, flawless. I know I’ve said it more times than any of us can count, but I really value a bag that will hold up. The Lola is certainly one that will do that. You can dress it up, dress it down and without a doubt you still have a knock out bag. Basically, you can put as much or as little into the bag as you want to and the shape holds up. So, ready to enter?

How do I enter: Click here to check out the interview we conducted with Andrew Cotton. Then come back to this post and in the comments section below, tell us one of your favorite parts of the interview.

A couple things to keep in mind: One entry per person and you have April 8th – April 14th to enter to win.

Just like last week, if you find yourself saying, “I MUST HAVE THIS BAG”, head over to Linea Pelle Online, and if you buy this bag, you’ll receive $25 off when you enter this code at checkout: LPLOLA.

I loved this part of the interview,

So if we asked you when you were 20 ,do you think you are going to be involved with handbags? Would your answer probably have been no?
Andrew: I would of been like “What, are you crazy!”

I mean what 20 year old man would ever think he’d be involved in handbags! Gotta love it.

I think my favourite part in the interview is where Andrew discusses naming the Sirena bag. so hilarious!

you get the feeling that he really thinks about it and he’s right about how the name of the bag just clicks.

Fantastic interview! Andrew is so down to earth and open. My favorite part of the interview was when he was describing the LP girl. Bags are really an extension of your personality, and its great to get his perspective on the personalities that would mesh well with LP’s style!

I always love parts hearing how a designer got into the business. Fascinating how he was originally in medical school, but ended up in fashion.

I LOVE HANDBAGS AND WOW-HE went from a Medical student, obviously smart enuf for that choice but he goes out into a totally different profession-I wanted to be a doctor, a pediatrican, but when I realized I had just met my hubby and he was grounded to his family and friends and wasn;t leaving, I made the choice to change career, not as drastic as Andrew, I stayed in the science field-a Chemist ,
but I’m sure he knows he made the right choice , and I did too, 33 years later happily married!
Secretly I digress and should have been a fashion designer……………………………

My favourite part is definitely talking about how he came up with the name Sirena, who would have thought it could be something so.. silly and normal? Always love when people stick in little private jokes or references into their work, purely for their own amusement!

My favorite part was definitely about how he got into the business- how he was a med student, then architect, then fashion designer. I wish I had the guts to do that! Now I’m regretting everyday that I have chosen the path of nursing and not going to FIDM! oh well, I guess i’ll leave fashion up to Andrew and I’ll go on saving lives =)

    I LOVEEE the dylan handbags!

My favourite part is definitely the “medical school to fashion designer” switch…pretty much sums up my life at school right now (minus the success, I really should start designing bags instead of buying them, lol).

    Hi,

I liked two parts of the interview:

    1. The first part was where he said that he had no idea what he wanted to do after medical school and architecture school…He accidently started creating designs for textiles and accessories…

    2. The “Bewitched” TV show inspired the design for Samantha/Serena handbags…I liked that part a lot…

I liked Andrew Cotton’s description of the LP girl… fits me to a T! He’s a pretty facinating guy… the switch from medicine to architecture to design is a pretty major one. I also noticed that he said there isn’t a lot of culture in LA….

I liked the first part of the interview when Andrew discussed finding the right fit for himself after medical school, architecture, and then designing. It just goes to show that you can do anything when you put your mind to it and have a passion for it. If youre mot happy having one career-move on until you find something that brings you joy!

I found it hilarious that he went from med school to designer! Just shows that everyone needs to follow their gut and do what is going to make them happy, instead of what everyone else thinks that they should! Love the bags!

  27. LAltiero85 says:

Haha! He’s awesome, I loved this interview….one of my favorite parts of the interview was when he was asked where he came up w/ the names for his collections of bags, and he said about naming one bag Samantha and decided to name another one of the bags from the collection, with a bit different shape Sirena for Bewitched. That was really cool, I like how, instead of naming his bags after a model or celeb, he decided to make it a personal little thing that would make him smile every time he sees his work. Very cool. Of course I was also very interested in what he said was the big thing for spring/summer 09…always interested in that. Very informative! I love Linea Pelle, the leather is SO AMAZING yet they’re very affordable.

Favorite part is how Andrew kept reinventing himself (med school, greeting cards etc) and flowed with the opportunities that life presented for him. Lucky for us! I love L.P. bags the edgy and durable soft leather.

  31. KK says:

My favorite parts (I had two, of course!) of the interview are first, when Andrew was describing the woman he met in New York ” who was literally always in leopard from head to toe.” That is hilarious, I love that he found her “fascinating” he is obviously a great character himself and is therefore attracted to others of the like. My second favorite part is when he said “there’s not a lot of culture [in L.A.]” I just love that he is so blunt and outright.

“I thought that was so cute, nobody might get it but I do. Thats all that matters, as long as I get a chuckle its all good.”

Loved that part! I used to watch Bewitched all the time, but I probably wouldn’t have made the connection.

  37. Joanna says:

I was bewitched by Andrew’s fondness of the show, Bewitched which led to the Samantha and Sirena bags. I didn’t think of that when I saw the bags, but I so appreciate his “tribute” as I was a fan of the original series. I know it wasn’t part of the interview, but I just want to give a shout out to my favorite show, Brothers and Sisters! Kitty gets to carry all the interesting bags! Kudos to Andrew for finding a career that he so obviously enjoys!

    I loved this part:

PB: If you could describe the typical LP girl, what’s she like? (Or better yet, if you don’t think there isn’t a typical LP girl, why?)

Andrew: An LP girl is an individual & not afraid to express herself- She has great style and isn’t afraid to mix it up! She’s not so obvious and in your face with blatant logos and labels (although she does love a little luxe!),.More of understated casual chic I would say-The best of uptown and downtown!

  46. TygerKitty says:

    My favorite part(s):

PB: Will Linea Pelle be collaborating with any other designers soon?
Andrew: Great question! We get approached by a lot by celebrities (reps) who want to collaborate which is very flattering. Ideally we want someone who has great style of course, is a positive role model and who can also have some longevitySO with that lets just say that you should stay tuned

PB: If you could describe the typical LP girl, whats she like? (Or better yet, if you dont think there isnt a typical LP girl, why?)
Andrew: An LP girl is an individual & not afraid to express herself- She has great style and isnt afraid to mix it up! Shes not so obvious and in your face with blatant logos and labels (although she does love a little luxe!),.More of understated casual chic I would say-The best of uptown and downtown!

OMG so exciting and looking forward to hearing more about any collaborations with other designers. I think LP is fabulous as it is but I have to admit I love variety and change and excitement in my fashion!

Secondly, his description of an LP girl! Very cool, simplistic and chic just like the brand! Great interview… the pieces about no vegetation in his drink and Samantha/Sirena (Serena) were hilarious too! Thanks for picking his brain and giving us a chance to win a gorgeous bag too!

  50. Landry says:

I love that he floundered around for awhile, seriously…architecture! That’s my career of choice but when someone really finds their niche, that’s when the magic happens!

    Apr 8, 2009 2:58PM
  51. Jon says:

I liked his overall attitude. He maintains his dignity and doesn’t seek out celebs to promote his product but recognizes that great design will be recognized.

  53. Natalie says:

Loved his Sirena and Samantha story. And am glad he had the guts to leave medical school. I know too many people who didn’t and are regretting it. (Like design you have to love medicine to practice it!)

    Apr 8, 2009 3:16PM
  54. Lydia says:

I loved how he started out in medical school and went to architecture and then design! I think it goes to show that you don’t always have to know exactly what you want to do. It’s inspirational to see someone completely change career paths and have it go somewhere so fabulous! I think a lot of people stay in their current career out of fear or complacency, and it’s really inspiring to read such a story of success for making that leap of faith!

    Apr 8, 2009 3:27PM
  55. Joan says:

sorry…couldn’t take it out of context:

I loved the beginning, where he talks about how he didn’t know what he really wanted to do or plan where he’d end up. Its nice to hear that because Im going through that right now. I have no idea what I wanna do, but I know I want to do something creative as well!

The description of the Linea Pelle girl (she reminds me of myself) and the way he explained the celebrity connection- its like what they say about falling in love; when you aren’t looking good things come to you.

My favorite part of the interview was how he talked about drinking the wine and not remembering which movies he saw – kindred spirits. Apr 8, 2009 8:42PM
  85. Fobobina says:

Andrew must have a great sense of humour and not take himself too seriously. How he came up with the name for his Sirena bag is just clever, and he’s right, it was right over my head, never would have got it.

    Apr 8, 2009 8:50PM
  86. Sandra says:

I definitely think that the naming of the Sirena bag was the best part of the interview, it really makes me feel like Andrew Cotton put a lot of effort into each of his bags; it feels really special! Plus that’s just a really cute story haha.

    Apr 8, 2009 9:24PM
  87. kathy says:

Really interesting article and Linea Pelle, I guess I assumed that the one designing the bags would be a woman. Really what does a man know about purses? But as you read the article it unveils the man and his love for the bags he makes. I do love the cute joke on the Samantha/Sirena bag, I loved Bewithched when I was little too!

I own one of their belt’s and a few months ago I tried to purchase one of thier bags in turkquise but it was sold out. That bag seemed to be the perfect shade of turkquise. I guess I have to agree with Andrew when he said Linea Pelle does get colors right because I still dreaming of the bag wishing I got it!

  88. hotbaggal says:

“Honestly as I am doing them it usually just clicks. I will be working on it for a few days or whatever and I will be like oh great name and write it down.”

I loved this qoute from Andrew it shows that naming a bag is just as spontaneous as the idea from which it was created from.

  91. Maddy says:

I read the interview last night, and it sorta tossed around in my mind today. I’ve been an Andrew Cotton Fan since he started at LP.
The part of this story I love is how effortlessly his designs click; it’s a continuation of the way he naturally found his work / it found him.
His LP designs evolve just that organically. He keeps his decorative elements to a single note. Never OOT, just right-to-the-edge.
An understatement in honest naked leather – pure & simple.
Following LP design is pure fascination! This is still just the beginning of what we’ll see from the illustrious Mr.Cotton and his distinctive style.

(As much as I love my Samanthas, I hope to meet Serena soon, in royal purple w/gunmetal!)

  92. silvia says:

i definitely love how Andrew describes what the LP girl is like. A girl who isn’t afraid to express her sense of style, to try different things. A girl who doesn’t need labels all obvious to others to show and let it be known that shes chic. A girl who is a mixture of casualness and elegance. That is definitely what us LP girls are all about!!

It’s good to know that a great designer who also went through doing something he wasn’t sure about…I mean just like us spending time to do something we don’t want, but at the end meet what we really love. That inspires me!

Great interview with Andrew Cotton! I thought his story about the Samantha/Sirena names was cute.
I was also interested in what he had to say about where he sees the line going in the next few years (opening a couple of retail shops and expanding LP’s products). Can’t wait to see what’s coming up!

  110. Corina says:

“PB: When it comes to trends and handbags, what are the 2009 must haves for Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter?
Andrew: That’s a loaded question, but Color and Hardware! Colors start out rich and deep for Fall 1 and then go bright into Fall 2 & Resort! Dylan lives on in great new silhouettes in a myriad of colors. We also introduce Jacklin and Alex in the same garment washed supple Italian leather. There’s also cool new slouchy Vanessa and studded Serena. Hardware finishes range from matte gold and copper to satin nickel and gunmetal-Everything goes!”

This is the part I love the best out of the entire interview. I mean, it is actually the first time I hear about Linea Pelle. I had no idea what kind of style LP has. After I read this, I understand LP plays with colors, and ornaments the product with hardware. His answer introduces the brand to the people; also gives a brief description about the future trend and collection of LP for Fall ‘09.

  113. Redcat says:

I liked most two part of the entire interview. The first one is where he tells about his studies: he discovered his talent in design after trying various choices of education. Not always people admit having the planning of the future not so clear. Hat off for his sincerity.
Second: the Linea Pelle woman is someone which is not fond of big logos. I recognized myself in it. I like bags, but not too bright in colors and evident in logos.
Thank you for let us know about the giveaway.

  115. Meg says:

I love the discussion of color, and the importance of color to the LP brand. The colors they use are chic and in style, but they’re also timeless and not difficult to wear. The colors of LP make the bags so distinct!

My favorite part was the drink discussion, because I was obsessed with martinis before I discovered wine. :P

    PB: What’s your favorite drink?
Andrew: Very very very dry Belvedere martini. Freezing cold, no twist, no olive, no funny stuff. I want it just freezing cold and dry. Delicious. I don’t want any little vegetation taking away from my drink and taking up space.

  120. Candice says:

I love how he describes the Linea Pelle customer! it’s what I think is the best mix a little bit uptown and a little bit downtown! I think his bags definitely have a nice mix of the two

Ha ha, the Samantha/Sirena naming of the bags is hilarious! I love that he keeps himself amused and doesn’t worry what other people think or if they’ll get his BEWITCHED reference. So cute! I also like that he just found his way to where he is now through an unplanned and roundabout way – I hope I eventually get to a similar place for me eventually!

How to choose?! Loved how he got into the business – shows a willingness to go where the opportunity lies and not be rigid about his career plans! Also shows a lot of intelligence, which is apparent in my 2nd fav part: naming Sirena. So cute! And how jet lag doesn’t exist for him – I can totally relate. That’s my 3rd fav part.

I have to to say that I have two favorite parts:
1 – Where he is talking about how he names the bags. I like that he has his own little stories for each bag. Especially the Bewitched reference. If I were him I would get a good chuckle every time I talked about that particular bag.
2 – The fact that he doesn’t like “vegetation” taking up space in his drink. Hilarious. I love the word vegetation in refernce to drink garnishes.

Interesting interview. I think his take on who his customer is appeared spot on……”no blatant logos and label”. My favorite part of the interview was how glleful he seemed that nobody else caught on to the Bewitched reference in naming the bags Samantha& Sirena- so it was an inside joke.

” I think it is more about staying true to the brand. The celebrity aspect happens to go as the icing on the cake, because I don’t know that we necessarily seek it as much as it comes to us. ” I like this part because celebrities come and go but a true quality bag will always be a great purchase.

I admire his courage to change areas, from medical school to architecture, and eventually to designs and finally settled in the fashion industry. I bet it must have felt like getting a roller coaster ride, scary, but exciting!

  141. Lauren says:

I love this quote: “The best of uptown and downtown!” I think that is something many women strive for! Linea Pelle seems like a great combination of the two and a great representation of “California culture” which was also touched upon in the interview. Love the collection!

    Apr 9, 2009 2:49PM
  142. Jsuny says:

The whole interview was pretty great but a couple interesting things that stood out for me was that Andrew Cotton was in medical school but then found he really wanted something else and searched for it until he found it. Armani (was it?) also was in medical school and then went into fashion and I find that that takes a certain kind of person to be able to pursue your dreams instead of following what society/family/friends may say is the most logical thing to do.

I also loved the part about the naming of the bag because that’s just so fun.

    Apr 9, 2009 2:57PM
  143. Theresa says:

My fave part of the interview was when he made reference to “Bewitched” when talking about how he named the Samatha and Sirena bags…my sister is named Samantha, and my mother named her after the Samantha of “Bewitched”. As she was growing up, my sister has this evil side to her that I refer to as her “Serena” side. So I laughed and laughed when I read this part of the interview. I think I’m going to have to go out and get a “Samantha” bag for my sister (or maybe even a “Sirena” bag) for her next birthday… ;)

    Apr 9, 2009 3:20PM
  144. Jen says:

I like how he described Linea Pelle girls as individuals. That’s totally me.

    Apr 9, 2009 3:49PM
  145. Jen says:

Definitely the best part of the interview was when Andrew described his start in the fashion business – meeting and befriending a petite, gregarious NYC woman who wore head-to-toe leapard (can’t you just picture her?) and then going to F.I.T. classes with her, etc. As overly sentimental as it may sound, I think that it proves that seemingly random and innocuous events in our lives – including the people that we run into – often lead us down paths of the unexpected and often toward success. I’m always running into people where I think, “Gosh – I wish I could be their friend! They would lend so much color to my life!” Andrew jumped on that bandwagon, took those classes with her, and just look where he ended up! His bags are gorgeous!

    Apr 9, 2009 4:00PM
  146. Tina says:

I found it interesting that Andrew had the experience of starting off in one direction )ex.Medical school and ending up in a completely different direction that he could not have ever thought of doing. It is like you take one road and then there are many twists and turns and you are in such a different place from where you expected to be but in the end it all works out and you are at a better place. If other people had the guts to experience different things they might be able to find their passion. How cool. I am sure Andrew has many more roads to travel….. and who knows what will be in the future with expanding their business.

  148. rainydaze says:

i was fascinated to learn how he got into the business and how his designs finally clicked after not feeling right when he first started out with Linea Pelle ….. but my favorite part was this line:

“I dont want any little vegetation taking away from my drink and taking up space.”

a luxurious handbag is a great thing, but one designed by someone with that kind of sense of humor… that’s something special!

    Apr 9, 2009 5:43PM
  149. Allison says:

My favorite part of the interview was when he talked about his education and how he switched from considering a career in medicine to a career in design. This particularly interests me because I find myself in almost the exact same dilemma: a career in biology and academia or one in art, design, and fashion? It’s a choice between what speaks to your mind and what speaks to your heart – i.e., impossible! In any case, it’s heartening to read about someone who chose the latter, since my family seems to think that would be the worst idea ever ;)

For a fashion student such as myself, this interview was very entertaining! i love hearing about people’s creativity and success in the fashion industry. It didn’t feel like he was trying to sell the bag when he talked about the LP girl and her personality traits. It felt like he was speaking about his best friend or someone he admired, which makes me want to own one of these bags more than ever before!

  159. Michelle says:

I was not surprised that Andrew came to fashion in a completely roundabout manner. If you look at the fashion greats, they exude style in every aspect of life – hence the staying power and lifestyle branding success of Ralph Lauren, Giorgio Armani, etc… Style is something that will be expressed no matter which misguided direction you set off in, as long as you follow intuition and opportunity.

    Go Linea Pelle!

  161. Deborah says:

Having majored in architecture myself, I thought the “architecture too intense” thing was hilarious. Related to the transition to home design, then home accesories, to jewelry, etc. I especially liked his frank disclosure that he ” was kind of floundering between and took a course and ended up with a mentor who kind of started me off in design.” I think it shows how important a mentor can be to young talent.

I love hearing how people got started in their industry and hearing Andrew’s answer was no different. His hop from med school to architecture and then finding his way to design shows it took him a while and a few detours to find his calling. Well, its taking me a while too and I’m still pondering the detours so it’s nice to know it’s not too late for me.

I loved that he said his favorite vacation spot was his HOME (In upstate NY). When you are as busy as he is & you don’t get home a lot, you appreciate it more. I like that. Plus, I ‘m sure his home is FABULOUS since he started in home furnishing accessories.

    Apr 10, 2009 10:37AM
  178. Raspberry Jam says:

I love the end of the interview where he is talking about trends for the season. It’s always cool to hear straight from a designer what is in and what is out for the year.

    Apr 10, 2009 10:56AM
  179. Nicole says:

I like how he thinks it’s funny that he just kind of fell into designing. You wouldn’t expect going into medical school that you would end up being a major designer.

    Great interview.

  180. Jillybean307 says:

I also liked the part where he discussed naming the Samantha/Serena bag. Yay for Bewitched!

    Great bag :)

    Apr 10, 2009 11:05AM
  181. Taylor says:

The Sirena/Samantha thing was great. But I also loved that he started out in medical school! It’s quite inspiring that someone as successful as him in his field could have no idea where he was going early on.

    Apr 10, 2009 11:09AM
  182. Cody says:

The Bewitched reference was definitely my favorite part, but I appreciate his favorite drink, as well.

    Apr 10, 2009 11:26AM
  183. bao says:

That was a great interview! My favorite part was the story behind his Samantha and Sirena bag. It’s always interesting to find out how designers come up with names for their bags.

    Apr 10, 2009 12:23PM
  184. bindc says:

I’m with a lot of the other posters. I loved it when Andrew talked about naming the Sirena bag. I loved watching Bewitched reruns as a kid so I totally got what he was talking about. I thought that was one of the better interviews TPB has done.

    :-)

    Apr 10, 2009 12:26PM
  185. FoggyBrooke says:

I loved reading how bags are named. I have always wondered if they were named after specific people in the designer’s life or if it just happened (like the Sirena bag name).

    Apr 10, 2009 12:50PM
  186. ChristineNY says:

I’m another one who loved the whole Samantha/Sirena subject.

    Apr 10, 2009 2:52PM
  187. tasha says:

I think the a good part of the interview is when he describes his life history and how he got to where he is today. It seemed to happen organically for him….he went with his instinct of design and listened to his passion for designing. Its inspiring to hear stories of people who really pursue what they want to do (forgoing a medical career for architecture then design). And if he were not with Linea Pelle, you would probably still see him elsewhere doing design work. Nice work asking questions that lead to thought provoking answers!

    Apr 10, 2009 3:16PM
  188. Mollie says:

I love how he started out in medical school! being that i am in the medical field it makes me feel like i can do anything! i love LP :)

    Apr 10, 2009 4:14PM
  189. Courtney says:

I am very shocked that he started out in medical school. I think it just sorta shows that even designers and celebrities go through these situations where you don’t really know what you want to do in life. I just love that he is so down to earth as well. Can’t wait to buy a LP!!

    Apr 10, 2009 4:38PM
  190. Kathryn Dusza says:

I loved the fact he was into designing so many different things, like furnishings and textiles. I’m sure all the diverse experience lends itself to a unique knowledge of style and functionality. He states Linea Pelle “does color well” and I couldn’t agree more. That is what led me to this brand…seeking out beautiful, timeless colors in a fold-over style tote…and I found Dylan. I’m glad to see he agrees it’s the hottest bag around, with fringe giving it a run for it’s money. I told my friends fringe was coming back, and they scoffed at me!! HAH!

    Apr 10, 2009 5:55PM
  191. Beverly says:

I love the part where he went o medical school and then architectural school and thought it was too intense! That’s funny!! and it’s also so unusual for someone who goes to medical school to end up designing bags!!!

What a wonderful success story about finding his passion!!!

    Apr 10, 2009 6:19PM
  192. Elena says:

I love that he was originally in med school, then architecture, and then bounced around a bit before his current place at Linea Pelle. That makes me feel a lot better, that even though I still haven’t found my niche, I still can (and will!). I don’t know if I believe him quiiiiiite when he says that fringe is almost a classic… I understand what he’s saying with the bohemian style, but really? It’s a trend. We haven’t seen much fringe in the past few years, and now it’s everywhere… that’s kind of the opposite of classic, to me. Doesn’t mean I don’t want a fringe bag NOW though!

    Apr 10, 2009 8:28PM
  193. Shelly says:

I love to know how designers “fell into” designing. I think great design comes from atypical places–and varied backgrounds.

And references to the Rose Bowl make me sigh for my hometown…. Thanks for the in depth interview.

    Apr 10, 2009 9:08PM
  194. S says:

My most favorite part of the interview was when Andrew said, “But to date I would have to say the Dylan, because I try and reinvent it every two seasons, give it a novelty flare, every other season give it new color. So it is still wildly popular.”
The Dylan is probably my most favorite Linea Pelle bag and I think it’s wonderful that they keep adjusting it.. making it fresh but also original. The colors and the leathers are beyond amazing, and it’s nice to see that Andrew Cotton also likes bringing the Dylan back again and again in new fun colors and alterations! Linea Pelle seems dedicated to the Dylan which makes it all the more special!

    Apr 10, 2009 9:42PM
  195. Jess says:

My favorite part of the interview is when Andrew tells us how he got into design.

    Apr 10, 2009 9:51PM
  196. JenGal says:

As someone who chose a profession back in high school and stuck with it, I have to admire someone like Andrew who followed his interests through various career changes to get to where he is now. It takes a lot of courage to completely change career paths mid-stream – and he’s done it several times! Thank goodness for all of us purse-lovers that he had the perseverence to pursue his interests. Hearing about Andrew’s journey to what is certainly his true calling is what I enjoyed most about this interview.

    Apr 10, 2009 11:06PM
  197. Ashley says:

Very interesting interview! I really liked hearing him talk about his history and I liked that he was able to admit that they made mistakes in the past and they didn’t have “perfect” bags. It’s refreshing to hear someone say they’ve learned from their mistakes rather than defending a weaker product because they are “XYZ” brand and they never make mistakes! Hearing the ideal LP girl was also fun because looking at their collection I can envision it exactly. He certainly knows his audience!

    Apr 10, 2009 11:21PM
  198. Carolyn says:

For a recent college grad, i like how he ‘found’ his career

    Apr 11, 2009 12:51AM
  199. Amanda says:

Andrew: An LP girl is an individual & not afraid to express herself- She has great style and isn’t afraid to mix it up! She’s not so obvious and in your face with blatant logos and labels (although she does love a little luxe!),.More of understated casual chic I would say-The best of uptown and downtown!

    Apr 11, 2009 1:28AM
  200. Sarahsaurus says:

I laughed my head off at the Samantha/Serena(Sirena) thing before he started explaining it! I love little in-jokes like that.

I do wish you’d printed the part about Brothers and Sisters though ;)

    Apr 11, 2009 1:29AM
  201. Karen says:

Anyone so bright and has such a creative talent is a winner to me. I really enjoyed the part about naming the purse and having a classic TV show as an inspiration.

    Apr 11, 2009 2:40AM
  202. Roxanna says:

My favorite part definitely had to be when he was talking about the Samantha/Sirena bags,,,,, that is soooo something that I would do, doesn’t matter if no one else understands. Thats what makes a great designer, in my opinion.

    Apr 11, 2009 3:38AM
  203. Marietta says:

I like the part how he evolved into becoming a designer. I mean, I really do not love the job I have right now and I wish I would discover what I really want to do. Im very happy and excited for his new passion because I am a bag lover too!

    Apr 11, 2009 8:14AM
  204. exotikittenx says:

I love Linea Pelle bags! They were one of the first brands that caught my eye here at TPF and leather is divine. Styles are amazing, too.

My favorite part of the interview is when he discusses the possibility of opening up retail shops. I would love to go to one of the Linea Pelle retail shops and see all of the merchandise in one place! Great interview.

    Apr 11, 2009 8:56AM
  205. Nadia says:

My favourite part was the description of the typical Linea Pelle girl – hooray for bags with subdued logos!

    Apr 11, 2009 8:59AM
  206. Bethany says:

I appreciate his honesty when he said ” like anything it doesn’t happen over night, you kind of have to find your way and get into a groove”. You can tell that a lot of hard work has gone into his success and the success of the company…

    Apr 11, 2009 11:44AM
  207. Jenn says:

My favorite part is definitely him describing his favorite drink:
“I dont want any little vegetation taking away from my drink and taking up space”. I don’t even care if I sound juvenile, but I couldn’t help smiling at that part.

    Apr 11, 2009 12:39PM
  208. Suzanne says:

My favorite part of the interview was when he described his experience at the trade show and how people went crazy over the LP booth design- “The booth was very white, great sign-age, dark shelves, and just a color assortment of Dylan’s on a wall.People went crazy, it was different, it was dramatic, it was color, again we do color really really well it is one of the things we are known for and the leather. ” Very graphic! I wish I could have been there to experience that excitement first-hand.

  209. stark_rain24 says:

Wow, I can’t believe this contest is for the lola bag, I’ve been wanting this bag for a while.

My favorite part of the interview was finding out that he initially considered carreers in medicine and architecture before landing in fashion–he seems like such a well rounded person!

    Apr 11, 2009 4:49PM
  210. chris says:

my favourite part of the interview was hearing about how he ended up designing womens accessories. who would’ve thought he started off in home furnishings? i really enjoy hearing about how people ended up doing what they do now. it’s always so interesting.

    Apr 11, 2009 5:19PM
  211. Elaine says:

I really liked the part about naming the bags after the characters in Bewitched. I never would have thought about that even though I used to watch the show all the time. It was really clever of him!

    Apr 11, 2009 8:16PM
  212. luvhautecouture says:

ugh I’m going to be boring like the rest! But I was surprised about the medical school/architectural beginnings. Although I could see the design aspect (architecture) and attention to detail and specifics (architecture/medical field). It’s interesting where a person’s talents can take him/her!!

    Apr 11, 2009 8:17PM
  213. Bonniesgirl says:

I love the part about happy hour!

    Apr 11, 2009 8:41PM
  214. Jane says:

The photos of the bags! Also, the range of interests and abilities of Andrew. From med school to bag design?

    Apr 11, 2009 9:00PM
  215. Danielle says:

Well my favorite part of the interview had to be the whole Samantha/Sirena name thing. It’s nice to see such a famous designer be themselves and not be all stuffy. It really added to bring out his personality and made me love the bags even more than before. Plus it reminds me of myself and friends…they hardly ever get the things i think are so funny until AFTER i explain it.

    Apr 12, 2009 12:15AM
  216. thisismypurse says:

Thanks for this interview. My favorite part was reading that they may open some retail shops.

    Apr 12, 2009 12:35AM
  217. Holly says:

The best part was the commentary about the naming of “Sirena” and how he would get a chuckle out of it because he’d be the only one to know of it.

Overall, it was interesting to read from a designer’s perspective and especially considering he dropped medical school for this!

    Apr 12, 2009 12:55AM
  218. Samia says:

The best part for me is knowing how they started doing what they do.

First off…great interview…he for sure comes off as a easy going, fun guy. Loved the martini comment, love is huge career change! I also love his ability to not have jet lag! (sign me up!)

    Apr 12, 2009 10:26AM
  223. Lauren says:

What a good read :) I really enjoyed the part, when talking about the naming process for the bags, he mentioned the “Samantha/Sirena” story. It’s a cute idea first of all,. but just the way he almost chuckled to himself in that ‘At-least-I-thought-it-was-funny’ way is so hysterical – and so REAL. I would love to just have coffee with this guy.

    Apr 12, 2009 10:30AM
  224. ann says:

i love the first part of the interview where andrew talks a little about his background. the reason for this is because i’m a bit in the same place as he was. i’m currently studying biology/health (pre-law and pre-med), but somehow i feel like this isn’t the right direction for me. even though i have a full school load, i also take design classes on the side at a local community college… it’s been the most enjoyable part of my school studies so far. i really seem to have no direction at all when it comes to picking out the right profession, but this interview was somewhat uplifiting because it shows how things can sort of fall into the right places and work out in the end.

    Apr 12, 2009 11:17AM
  225. Alison says:

I loved the interview where he talks about the Dylan line and how LP is all about color..I am obsessed!!

    Apr 12, 2009 12:16PM
  226. Rochelle K says:

My fave part I think was where he described “the typical LP girl”. I liked it because it described me to a T. “Individual and not afraid to express herself”, “great style and isn’t afraid to mix it up”, “not so obvious and in your face with blatant logos and labels (although she does love a little luxe!)”, and “understated casual chic I would say-The best of uptown and downtown!”. That is me – 100% and damn proud of it!!

  227. Lindsay Benson says:

I thought it was funny that when he was twenty he thought wouldn’t have been doing this.
It’s always interesting to hear about someone whos career is outside of their norm. :D
I love his style. :) Its awesome that these bags can be casual of formal at the same time.

    Apr 12, 2009 2:26PM
  228. kristen says:

I like the fact that he started out in a field completely irrelevant to creating handbags and it just sort of fell into his lap as well as the fact that he mentions the typical lp lover is someone who doesn’t need to have obnoxious labels on their bags, im always on the lookout for bags that are stylish but not in your face

    Apr 12, 2009 2:49PM
  229. Christine says:

I loved reading about LP, I want one now. I thought it was interesting that he considers fringe more timeless than trendy. I like the sirena bag and story as well.

    Apr 12, 2009 3:42PM
  230. gypsumrose says:

The vegetation in drinks bit was funny, but I really like how he broke the mold and changed his direction. That can seem like such a big risk at the time, but it seems to have paid off!

    Apr 12, 2009 4:08PM
  231. Riley says:

I found the entire interview interesting. One of the most interesting parts was that he had originally started out in med school.

    Apr 12, 2009 5:11PM
  232. Esther says:

I loved how he described the LP girl as “The best of uptown and downtown!”. Seeing how LP collections are so versatile when it comes to style (ie- dylan vs. janis), it’s so easy to dramatically change your wardrobe with LP handbags! I definately think that Dylan is the icon for LP handbags lol.

    Apr 12, 2009 5:58PM
  233. Krystal says:

I like the part where Andrew discusses naming the bags. I’ve always wondered why designers use certain names (I’ve always wanted a ‘Krystal’ bag and never found one!) The Samantha & Sirena story is cute & I wouldn’t have pieced it together myself. I found it interesting that he started in medical school, then architecture & now is designing belts & handbags. I’m currently on my second career choice ( Int’l Business to Interior Design) and it’s hopeful to see that I still have a chance to be successful. I graduate school soon so hopefully I can convice someone to treat me to a LP bag as a graduation gift! :)

  234. Katie says:

I think that the interview was great! It’s nice to hear more about the designer and the brand and how the inspiration happens with the collections. I like to get to know designers and find out what motivates them since I am a fashion designer myself! :D Thanks for the great interview!

my favorite part was when he discusses how he came up with the name Sirena versus the existing Samantha bag. I love Bewitched! Where is the Tabitha bag then??? :) Plus, anyone who loves Belvedere is fine by me. Also love how he begins with a desire to be a physician and is detoured to handbags! Reminds me of my other fave designer, Rebecca Minkoff. :)

  238. Marissa says:

I found the interview to be really interesting. I like how he told his story of how he got into designing via medical school and how he names the bags.

    Apr 12, 2009 10:23PM
  239. Sally says:

Others have already said this but I also loved the part about how he started in medicine, switched to architecture and then found his way to a true calling. That’s inspiring to me – brave of him to switch and hold true to himself. Plus – man, the bags are fantastic!

    Apr 12, 2009 11:15PM
  240. Stephanie says:

Truthfully? I loved where he described how he likes his favorite drink. Oh, that and his inspiration and how he loves upstate New York. He seems so eclectic and fun…Just like the bags, darling, just like the bags!

    Apr 13, 2009 2:06AM
  241. Lynnie says:

Andrew knows exactly how I feel about LP. LP’s bags are definitly for individuals who dares to express herself. It all comes down to the way she carries herself AND the bag to determine whether she has style or not. So many people has the wrong impression that a person’s style determines the bags they should carry. This phrase is in my dictionary, “More of understated casual chic I would say-The best of uptown and downtown.”

My favorite part was that when he flies he takes stacks of magazines and watches sometimes up to 12 movies on the plane, yet by the time he gets off he can’t remember the names of them.. Due to the Wine.. whoo whee, he is a great flyer, sounds like fun.

    I liked this part mosts:
PB: How do you come up with the names for the bags?
Andrew: Honestly as I am doing them it usually just clicks. I will be working on it for a few days or whatever and I will be like oh great name and write it down.

    Apr 13, 2009 5:29AM
  244. Diana says:

I liked reading that he was confused and tried different things when he started out. I think a lot of people can relate to that. And it’s particularly cool that he considered architecture as I think people who have vision and creativity are often attracted to that field.

    Apr 13, 2009 8:47AM
  245. lena says:

My favorite part would have to be where he talked about how he got into the business. He started off in such a completely different area and like he said, “floundered around” in different majors and career paths. I find myself in a similar situation, and he definitely gave me hope and inspiration that I too will someday have great success in a field I truly love.

  247. Brynn says:

I was very intrigued by the way Andrew Cotton names the bags. I loved how he did a play on the names Samantha and Serena from Bewitched when naming the Sirena bag. I thought that was very witty and I enjoyed reading that he names the bags so he can get a chuckle even if no one else gets it.

    Apr 13, 2009 10:45AM
  248. patricia skinner says:

My favorite part of Andrew’s interview was how he wound up a designer. That is true encouragement for me. As a mom who has a son that seems to be floundering as he started off on course, changed courses and now even wants to move in a totally different area that is truely encouraging.

We all want our children to be happy but also settled into thier own careers.

I loved the description of the girl he made hats with: “Then I met this lady in New York, who was literally always in leopard from head to toe. She had silver white hair, and was really cute and petite.”

I want to meet her! (And I liked the part where he mentioned he didn’t want any vegetation taking up space in his drinks)

PB: So if we asked you when you were 20 ,do you think you are going to be involved with handbags? Would your answer probably have been no?
Andrew: I would of been like “What, are you crazy!”

It made me laugh, because it seems like a pretty typical answer for a guy ;) What man would ever expect to design handbags for a living?

It is really interested to read about Andrew’s background, the years before coming to Linea Pelle how he tried different studies and jobs. I enjoyed reading about the Dylan and Sirena lines and the fact that fringe is huge.

Looks like one or two retail shops may be in future. Good luck.

    Please enter me. Thanks.

I liked that Andrew started out in Medical school, and then decided that wasn’t for me so I got into Architecture and also decided that was too intense. It’s nice to know that people like him exist.

I enjoyed this interview with Andrew Cotton. I feel that he is an extraordinary
designer and has incredible taste and knowledge of what his demographic wants.
The Alyssa and Janis bags really knock me out and are as close to Desmo’s style of bags without being a rip-off! This guy is amazing!

I loved the part at the end when he’s talking about the new lines for the coming seasons. It is a loaded question! I love the studs on LP bags! They are so cool! Matte gold, copper, satin nickel, Gunmetal, love it!

I loved the part where the Samantha/Serena handbags were inspire by “Bewitched” . I am a big cinema/television buff and although I’m not saying that all shows are good it just goes to show how people draw inspiration from all sorts of places!
