If you’ve spent any appreciable amount of time shopping for handbags, either online or in stores (and I think that it’s a pretty good bet that you have), then you’re likely familiar with the utterly enormous line of not just handbags, but small leather goods,
accessories, tech accouterments and any number of other tiny and not-so-tiny things that one can buy and put in his or her bag. They’re a huge part of the company’s financial success, not to mention that Jacobs’ wallets, iPad cases and coin purses fill a huge market gap for functional accessories with a contemporary style and price point. So why not showcase that on the runway?

For Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2013, that’s exactly what the company did, by way of handbags with clear front panels. The panels allow both the bag’s interior design and the owner’s small accessories to become part of the visual, which could be great or terrible, depending on your handbag-tidiness tendencies. With the small, colorful accessories and interior pockets that are made to be seen, Marc’s little sister line might just pull off the look. If you’d rather have something a bit more private, the collection is rife with blurry gingham-printed satchels and Louis Vuitton Alma-esque top handles in bright crayon colors.
