Bottega Veneta The Knot Leather Clutch

by Shannon Mahoney

Ummmm. This, my friends, is the very first time I have been completely confused with a Bottega Veneta Knot Clutch. I have to admit, I feel completely, 100% without a doubt, in love with knot clutches when they first and continued to appear. The design of these clutches wasn’t completely unique and in fact the designs themselves kept repeating one another over and over again. However, I appreciated every aspect each one had to give: the leather, the detailing, the simplicity, the eccentric-ness (is that even a word?). And then, and then I came across this version and I am not really sure.

So, folks, here is the deal – I really do like this clutch. However the practically-centered side of me can’t help but wonder: If I were to buy a BV Knot Clutch, would this be the one? Now obviously, if money was not an issue, the answer would be: “yes, of course this is the one”. Yet, not all of us have that kind of money to throw around.

Look, there is no denying the fact that this Bottega Veneta The Knot Leather Clutch is really cute, feminine and flirty. I do really like the clutch. The purple and pink leather play off one another in the perfect Spring-tastic fashion. These are the colors I love to see everywhere in the Spring. The purple scribble-effect stitching gives this grown-up clutch a fun twist. Really, to be honest, I’ve seen this same design on a bag I carried when I was, perhaps 8 years old. Was it BV? Absolutely not (not… knot, nice play on words, right?). Either way, this bag really is great, I’m just not sure as a BV Knot-less gal if this would be the first one I would splurge for. You? Buy through Net-a-Porter for $1180.

I would not spend $14 for that purse. The quality is not good at all. Bottega can do better I sure of it!

Reminds me of a makeup bag. I would have to pass on this one.

I’m a BV fanatic, and would adore to own one of their knot clutches some day soon, but this would definitely NOT be my choice! I agree….it looks like something that might have been created for–and by–an eight year old!

Looks like they lost control of the sewing machine! If it didn’t have the wild stitching, I’d go for it in a heartbeat, because the color is really pretty.

Looks like garbage to me. In a very hard trying non-cool way. Not at all associated with the effortless, laidback elegance BV stands for.

The rumbled leather and crazy stitching remind me of the poodle skirt I tried to make myself in the seventh grade. Still, I kind of like this. All the same, I wouldn’t buy it even for one or two hundred dollars.

My favorite Bottega Veneta styles are the unstructured woven types so I’m not a fan of the knot clutches. And I tend to be a boring neutral person, so this is definitely not my taste. And eccentricity would be the word.

I have a Bottega handbag that’s going on 4 years… I love it, the quality is simply outstanding and the design, even after 4 years, remains styling edgy. Adamantly for me, the Knot is not going to go down as one of their better designs… my expectations are higher than this performance.

I have never liked the fading of color on clothing from dark to light, so I really dislike it on a purse ! I am a fan of the knot clasp, but surely you would get sick of that pattern.
Agree with Cheryl, it is like a makeup purse.

I agree it looks more like a makeup case and not a very pretty one.

I think its cute, although it does look like they forgot to put the presser foot down on the sewing machine. I certainly wouldn’t pay that much for it though. Maybe a couple hundred.

Since I teach first grade, I would love to have a clutch like this. The scribbles are really cute. However, I just can’t afford to spend that kind of money on a clutch. Teacher salaries don’t support it.

this bag is ADORABLE! Sure it veers way off the course of what BV is known for, but i love that they went out there and created this. i think it’d be perfect for a spring party, or even paired with a flowy white dress in the middle of summer. thumbs UP!!

It looks like the stitching had a mind of it’s own and went awry…

No way, no how. I *LOVE* the classic Knot, but I would not spend any amount of money on this version. Nope…I give BV points for managing to make top-quality leather look like a Vera Bradley quilted cloth accessory, though. (No offense to Vera Bradley fans – I just think that BV and VB items serve very different purposes, and are clearly sold at different price points. Each has its own merits).

Very makeup bag-ish. I have no interest in this Canevas/Orchid Knot, or any of the other offered colors.

I love BV knot clutches and the color on this is great, but not feeling the design of it. It looks like a child scribbled on it! (fb)

Love the design and the colors, but hate the stitching and mushed look of the leather! The stitching is just too wild and looks like something I’d end up with if I tried my hand at sewing. (fb)

Cute but looks cheap. It is impratical. Wouldn’t look terrible with a solid black dress but still..totally not worth the money! fb

if i am going to buy a BV it is going to be the traditional woven leather. If it didn’t have the knot clap you would barely know that it was even a BV (fb)
