When I reported on the $3,500 Hermes bike two weeks ago, I had the feeling that we had not reached the pinnacle in cyclist decadence just yet. Karl Lagerfeld to the rescue! This Limited Edition Chanel Bike is the ultimate in two-wheeled novelty. With only 50 made and less than 20 available in the US, this creation retailed for $17,000, with reseller markups hitting $28,000 already.
At it was the case with the Hermes bike, it is thanks to our fantastic Purse Forum member vernilover that I can present some detailed snapshots of this exclusive piece to our readers.
The Chanel bike aims to impress with very fine detail, like the quilted leather handles, seat (made by the legendary Brooks Brothers), pant guard, even the bike pump is covered in Chanel’s signature quilted leather. The bike also features two quilted flap bags and a jewelry roll behind the seat, all of which are detachable and can be used as individual shoulder bags.
My opinion? No, thank you. Ridiculously overpriced novelty item, reserved for a few selected collectors who do not know what to do with their disposable income. Still crazy for Chanel? Cute but there is no need for this. I mean if I bought this and actually used it, where can I park it without someone stealing the thing? I would take Vlad’s advice and used the thousands save for a something more useful – say paying off debt.

but let’s say the seat is around $500 (’cause it’s BB after all – hell still don’t get it)
Say $1,000 for the actual bike
2x$4,000 for 2 jumbos on the sides
$1,500 for the mini under the seat – that’s 10,500 already
I’m not sure what Brooks Brothers does in this whole Chanel thing to begin with
That leaves us at a very inflated $11,000

exactly, where can a gal park her bike without someone stealing it or actually getting held up for a bike. too much pressure. i saw the bike in person in asia, and as a chanel fan, it is cute but i wouldn’t do it even if i have money to burn. to me it is not about style anymore, it is about the need to show off.

it is absolutely absurd as a bicycle. A howevermanythousanddollar handbag is just as absurd of course, but that’s fashion, yeah? I have no idea who actually made their bicycle, since I doubt the fashion house has facilities for TIG welding frames, but a top quality custom bike of this kind without the Chanel name goes for about $3 – 4,000 I think. The confusion over the saddle may be due to unfamiliarity with the cycling world. Brooks England has been making saddles for over a century http://www.brooksengland.com. They are no relation to Brooks Brothers.
Well I am an owner of this bike, and there is only 1 other in Canada, and I love it.
In fact outside of chanel and the people that made it, I was the first one that seen in Paris in a private fashion show for chanel at the house of chanel on rue cambon, and I loved it when I seen it and I love it now.
It rides very nicely btw, kinda long and hard to get around, but light weight.
I love this bike, but I wouldn’t pay the price. It would be easy to steal and I would much rather just buy a couple Chanel or Louis Vuitton bags instead to add to my collection.
The bike is super chic and I’d love to be seen around town on it, but it is pretty ridiculous. Bikes are used for funciton and necessity not fashion.
